I'm not sure about the differences between your model and the later model but I went through a ton of troubleshooting steps before I discovered the hidden headlight relay located under the dash on my 2005 Hyundai Accent. I have written in detail how to repair it: Hyundai Accent Headlights Will Not Come On Share Your Repair

2001hyundai accent lights do not work, high beams do if held on.

the fuse could have blown, & by the fuse blowing it could cause either the relay to become stuck or damaged or the light main circuit breaker could have been damaged, all these details & the individual locations can be found in your vehicles owners manual. best of luck.

I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent the Alternator went out and replaced that and it started just fine acept for the following: The low beams on the head lights work high beams ( but the low beams don't work )...

It sounds like a blown fuse. Are you checking them with a test light? And have you located all of the fuses. there will typically be a fuse box under the drivers dash area, and one under the hood. have another look Im certain you'll find a blown fuse. Good luck.

High-low beams not working

Check for headlight relay and fuse. Some cars have separate circuits for head light flasher and normal high/low beam. From your description, I would suspect a bad connection to/from relay or relay itself.

No high-beam headlights

It may not be the switch; most hi-lo changes are via relay to prevent the higher currents from flowing through light-duty switches.

Locate the relay cluster (it might be near or with the fuses) and if they aren't marked, pull wach one of them and plug back in several times to wipe possible corrosion from the blade contacts.

If they are marked, look to see if the same relay is used elsewhere (part number should be visible) and swap them temporarily to see if the relay is at fault.

Some vehicles will use separate relays for hi-lo beams and another for flashing since that often turns on both beams momentarily.
