Check your coolant level in the radiator when the engine is COLD. If it is low, add more. Also check and add as needed in the reservoir to the specified level. If these are full, then you have a bad water level sensor that will need replacement. This is a plug in the top of the radiator with a wire coming out of it. It acts much like a door switch that turns on the light when you open the door, only where the door switch is a momentary contact operated by a spring, the sensor in the radiator reads continuity based on the water level in the radiator tank. When there is no fluid, there is no continuity and the light comes on.
