New battery, completely drains while car not used for a day. Initial problem car lost power while driving, rpm went up when accelerating but power didn't eventually stalled. Started again, ran real rough, parked it, battery drained completely by next morning, had it charged, started car, very rough idle, put it in gear felt like it would stall little power, parked it, battery drained again, charged it checked w/ volt meter reads 14.4 while idling, put air lights on, engine stumbles, volt meter reds up to 15, down to 13.4ish for an instant, then rippples up and down between 14.3 to 14.9... hope that's clear Thanks 2000 Ford Focus zx3 DOHC

I have a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado and every time i start it the car has rough Idle and the Idle fluctuate's. I also can feel it in the gas pedal when the car is doing this I tried replacing the throttle body sensor but it still does it I also was told it was the Idle error sensor. So instead of spending the unecessary money again I thought I would go online and see if anyone could help me with this problem.

Hi there. Sounds like it could be fuel pressure. Did you try unscrewing the cap on the fuel rail to see if fuel sprays out or just drips? I'd check that first..

2 possible causes:
1. you have dirt in the tank that's clogging the sump when the fuel gets agitated - leaving the engine stopped allows the dirt to go back on the bottom, unclogging the sump of the pump. The tank will have to be taken off the car, emptied and washed thoroughly.
2 - the wires powering the fuel pump go loose when heated and cut off the power - this is easy to test : when this happens just unhook the fuel line from one of the injectors and put the contact(no engine starting), it the pump is still working the fuel should gush out. Clean the contact with wire wool and crimp them a little more.

2004 4 runner, battery was dead, boosted it and now the VSC TRAC, VAC OFF and check engine lights are on and no acceleration

Need to replace the battery I would guess

The battery won't provide enough module
voltage to power the PCM, so you can not use the vehicle

You would know how old it is & you shouldn't be jumping
any batteries

You disconnect them from the vehicle & charge first, then test
& if you want to try & use it, hook it back up

Today we are working with a lot of technology & electronics,
so you have to learn the new ways or you risk damage, confusion
& such,the reason your here

If you say the battery was fairly new, fully charged & tested,
then you shoulod have recorded all codes that are present

Once you get the battery thing resolved don't clear any codes
you may have other issues to work on & the battery gave out
at the same time, that happened to me last May & I only barely
saw the battery go down on my scan tool software pretty much
by dumb luck as I had a complete no rpm issue even in park
& couldn't drive over 3 mph. Touch the gas it went to 2000 & stayed
there

Your really lost in a heart beat when a simple battery failure
is the issue. Things a simple once you get the learning experience

I have a 2005 Mazda rx8. Engine was replaced about 23000 miles ago. I just replaced the battery with a Optima Red Top, starts up like its brand new. The problem is after it starts or when I'm driving and...

Many vehicle's ECMs need to 'relearn' the particular behavior of the engine if all power is removed (battery changed). Initially, it will use 'default' settings. I suggest you drive it for a couple of days and see if the situation corrects itself as the ECM learns how to manage fuel and spark on your engine during different conditions - idling, accelerating, decelerating, etc. If it doesn't improve in a few days, you may need to have it diagnosed by a qualified technician.

Power fadded over a few days now its dead. Fuel Pump?

It's quite possible to ruin a fuel pump by letting it run dry, especially if it already has years of use. When you first turn on the key, leave the door open and see if you can hear a high pitched whine for about three seconds. That would be the pump priming the system. If you don't hear it, then the pump isn't working. Be sure to turn the key of for about 10 seconds before you try listenng again(it has to reset). It can be hard to hear, especially over the key buzzer.

Can't get higher RPM's, mileage down to 5 mpg

Rob, it sounds like a throttle position switch to me. My 95 suburban with TBI had a similar problem and that fixed it. You may need a volt/ohm meter to rig it if you don't have a code reader that will monitor the values. I think the switch was about $25. Not sure if yours has a TBI or carburetor.

Good luck

Engine Light came on, Lost power

Only way to tell what is wrong is to have the computer scanned to read what code is stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM).
Any of the large parts stores, eg. Advance Auto, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. should be able to scan it for free.

Smoking golf 4 tdi

Hi,

Assuming no combustion chamber or fuel delivery faults, most turbo diesel engines exhibits this. The delayed is referred to as turbo lag and the smoke is fuel not completely burned since the fuel system tends to be a little rich when the turbo has not attained boosting RPM. Other than to have your injectors cleaned/replaced, the injector pump re-calibrated and/or the turbo checked for leakage, nothing much could really be done. Alternatives are to use fuel additives, re-check of the computer's map/software and/or change of driving habits. The idea is not to floor the accelerator until the turbo has reached the designated RPM where it kicks in.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
