Honda 98 CRV temperature gauge goes way up after an hour on hwy

When I drive around the city, my termperature gauge is in normal condition. When I am driving down the expressway (60-65 mph) for an hour or more, the termperature gauge goes up pretty high. I put the heat on full blast then the temperature gauge goes down back to normal. this can take up to 2-5 minutes to happen. When this first happened, I noticed my overflow was empty so I filled it up with glycol to the max level. It seems like I have air in there? I did take off the radiator cap and run the car with heat on full for 15 minutes. The coolant moved up a little but that was about it.

You will need to change your thermostat as it is stuck and is not responding correctly to temperature changes. Have your mechanic change the thermo, do a flush of the system and all should be good again.

How to solve my temp gauge problem

Replace the temperature gauge sensor with a new one. It should work. Just to confirm if it is faulty, remove it from the car but have it connected to the car temp meter to monitor the reading. Put your sensor in a pot with water over a fire and boil it. If the temp rises steadily, sensor is okay. If it doesn't, then replace it. Good luck.

You have to thank the Gauge that shuts down your engine when hot bec. it wont knock...you have to clean your radiator and see if the coolant inside it run through the radiator holes to the engine water jacket to make sure your engine will not over heat...For the fans, find the fan relay...it's under the hood in the fuse box...

The temperature gauge fluctuates very close to hot, but only during city driving. While on the freeway, the temperature indicator reads normal. What is your opinion as to the cause and solution to this...

Obviously the first thing to check is the coolant level, and top it up to the proper mark. If that's been checked and still doing same thing, get back to us/me.

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

CRV 2007 Fuel Mileage Indicator

It's probably like the old manual fuel gauge needle where it would take longer to get from 'F' to midway than from midway to 'E'. We all know that according to the gauge the last bit of gas goes faster. I think the digital readout is doing the same thing. I don't know why though.
