Check to make sure there is a belt on the alternater take it to a local auto parts store to have them test your battery and alternater dont go to far though you might get stranded replace the alternater if its frading under 13.0 volts output

Try cleaning the battery cables where they contact the battery. If that doesn't do the trick, most auto parts stores wil ltest your battery for free. Do both first before lookng into the charging system. Alternatively, Place an external battery charger on the battery and charge it up. If that fixes it then test the charging system.

If so, that's your Check Engine Light. It means there's a problem somewhere that your car's computer is detecting. Unlike the oil and battery lights, the Check Engine Light can come on for many different problems. You should have it looked at by a pro because there's not really any other way to determine exactly what's wrong.
