Hello. You can view a free chilton's repair manual at google.com under ebooks. Or go to autozone.com and register for free.
There is a pin sized hole that will need to be pushed in and then you will need to turn and pull the ignition.

If you are replacing this due to the anti-theft light coming on and you having to wait 10 minutes with key in on position to reset computer and theft light, then forget it becuase it won't help. It is a bad passlock system that everyone is waiting on a recall for

Currently is the security light flashing when you try and start it? Is so try this procedure it will take 30 minutes total to complete
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET ALL GM CARS 1999 AND UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the PASSKEY system to recognize your key

SOURCE: 1998 Chevy Malibu : Won't Start

I would check the fuel pump turn key on do not start or turn engine over just until dash lights up and you should hear a grunt sound come from back seat area if you do not hear this grunt your fuel pump is not working. Also if you have a check engine light on you should have your can scaned with a OBD 2 scan tool to retreve and faults the cars computer might be undrer going.

2005 chevy malibu i replaced ignition now it starts for one second then turns off is can i directly permantly insert the chip from the key directly into sensor box which is cinnected to the ignition &...

A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors. 4- Passlock Ignition lock
cylinder removed.
Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start

Where does the flasher go on a 98 chevy malibu

Replacement The turn and hazard flashers are integrated into one flasher on these models. The flasher is located in the hazard warning switch and the hazard warning switch is located on the trim plate. Replace the flasher by unplugging the old one, removing it from the panel, and plugging in the new one.
  1. Remove the bezel from the ignition switch.

Problems starting

I own a 1998 Chevy Malibu personally, change the ignition switch I had the identical issue, the switch eventually stopped turning completely, my vehicle had to be towed!! Save yourself a headache, I got one from a junkyard for 2.00, but it had to be programmed for the vehicle, I would take it to a trusted shop or dealer.

Ignition switch

You would be better off to go to a parts store and get a haynes manual for that. It's way too much to explain on here.
