Anyone know if a Dodge caravan will interchange with the Mitsubishi Montero sport a 2002 model the alternator to be more specific

If you look under the dashboard on the driver's side, there is a fuse panel. Under this panel is the BCM(body control module). There may be a bad relay in the bcm. Worse case scenario is a bad BCM. I hope this information is helpful to you, Good luck.

Verify your connections at the battery, not just for being tight but for corrosion as well, on the terminal and the cable.

Also check for oil on the bottom of the alternator. The right hand cam seal is notorious for leaking directly onto the alternator, killing them quickly.

That all being said, I haven't seen an aftermarket alternator last on a Montero for more than a month or two; so if your new ones are not OEM, you might consider getting a genuine one if your corrosion and oil leak checks are OK.

Unplug the battery. Let the car sit for 20 minutes. Reconnect the battery. Start the car along with the AC. Let it run for 15 minute. (Dont touch anything!) Then take her for a spin around the block, shut it off and restart and it should be fine.
Apperantly the montero has a computer that looses it driving/engine operating settings and defaults to factory. By letting the car sit with no battery your telling the the computer to recalibrate the next time it starts up. I just did it and it worked!
FYI My symptom after installing a new battery was: "it would not idle". It would die as I came to any stop.
