Engine light comes on goes off after turning off air cond

Clean the throttle body inside and the idle air control motor.This will help.

It needs fuel, air and electricity to run. There are sensors and an engine computer that will keep it from starting. You have to investigate all the systems in order to eliminate them as a cause or to locate the problem.

Make sure battery surface is clean and dry. No liquid or fluid !

the air cond requires the belt on or the pump cannot rotate as the air cond is belt driven on every auto that i know of. now if the belt is slipping it is a cause of one of two things. belt is stretched or not tensioned properly, or the air cond clutch is froze up. when you turn on with no belt the clutch is engaged and you will not be able to turn pump with ease. Install new belt and have air checked for proper freon fill

I would have someone check the computer for trouble codes next.

maybe yourstepper motor is defective or one more tip i can give is to clean the throttle body,remove the hose of the throttle and wipe inside the throttle

body control modual has bad connection at connectors

You may need a new compressor.

AC's have a low freon switch that shuts off the system to protect the compressor in the advent that you have a freon leak have the system checked for a leak
