1995 Nissan Maxima idle problems

I have a 95 maxima that idles rough. However when you drive it the more throttle you give it the better it runs. No problem at wide open throttle. I have already changed the mass air flow meter. Should I change the Idle air control valve next? The parts are pricey to just guess? Thanks, Bob

Let's try the cheapest fix first. Change the fuel filter out. You'll probably see a brown looking goop in the gas, This is an "ETHANOL" problem. Read up on it. These are all related to so many idle and acceleration problems. Buy a can of SEAFOAM at the parts house. Fill up tank with Premium and add SEAFOAM. Then change filter out before 500 more miles. This should clean out the water and the goop and the carbon build up caused by the ETHANOL. Add a can of SEAFOAM every 3000 mile after that to a full tank of gas. It will keep your emissions, engine, and fuel lines clean. And will keep your car from line freeze up. Good luck.

I\'d take out the MAF sensor by the air cleaner box, take out the two screws but unplug it first, and inspect it for consensation oxidizing on the contacts, if you see it take an old toothbrush and lightly scrub it off the contacts...put it back together and plug it in and start it up...That is what the problem was with my 95 Maxima and it ran like showroom after I figured that out. Took a few days but it was a relief and everyone thinks that stuff is waterproof on that air intake set up....nope.

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima with 206,000 miles. I had the engine replaced five months ago in the summer. Now its winter and this engine is having problems. It starts fine but runs very low on idle and I have to put my foot on the gas pedal to stop it from stalling. But once the engine warms up it runs fine. What could be the problem?

Have you motor mounts checked they may not be broken, but worn and are transmitting the engine vibration throught to the rest of the car

Try disconnecting the alternator for a few minutes.
It can run on just the battery that long.
It is possible the new alternator is producing too many spikes that disrupt the car's electronics.

95 nissan maxima 3.0. have replaced knock sensor

I would have the charging system checked for over-voltage and AC ripple. There maybe a hidden wire harness problem if the charging system is okay. Wiggle test the wire harness while the engine is running to help locate the problem area. That is way to many parts replaced.

It may be throttle position sensor or camshaft sensor. Most likely the throttle sensor.

I have a 1995 maxima with hickup or hesitation

It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. If you can unbolt it; try unbolted it and see how it runs. Also try unplugging the sparkplug wire one at a time and see if the shaking gets worse or stays the same. When you pull a spark plug wire and the car stops shaking then that cylinder isn't firing. Watch out though, you'll get a nasty shock if you do it without insulated pliers. It could be a stuck valve or bad ignition.

My nissan maxima stalls

Every answer here is wrong. This has been driving people nuts for 15 years. The problem is the engine wiring harness which has a bend going past the right strut tower, Nissan had a service bulletin on this in September of 1999, Google it, it's in pdf.
