An older starter will sometimes fail to turn over when hot because the armature bushing expand and are too tight for the armature to spin. At this point it is time for a new or rebuilt starter. Shielding it will not really help because it is bolted to the engine and as the engine gets hot the heat will transfer to the starter through conduction and it still will not start.
Hope this helps.

You don't have enough heat to worry about a shield.
Two common things are ....a tired starter and and/or tired battery.
Boost it when it gets hot with a good battery to check for battery problem.
If it stays hard to turn ......replace the starter.
