It is bolt on but there is two bolts that go straight up they will remove the starter make sure you disconnect the battery first and be careful not to mix the wires when installing new one good luck

On my part, I would have suggested talking to buick in order to find a compatible starter for your car which matched your old starter. This would help avoid the current issues and stop any unforeseen issues from occurring.
Here is a step by step. As always care must be taken when lifting a car, proper support is necessary.
The starter is on the side of the engine closest to the radiator. 1. Disconnect the battery negative cable and isolate it so it can't make contact with the battery connection. 2. Raise and properly support the car. 3. Disconnect the wires from the starter. 4. Remove the plastic shield from the bell housing to expose the starter bolts. 5. Remove the starter. Note: If there are shims under the starter you will need to replace them as needed. Note: Compare the old starter with the new starter before installing are two different starters for this application.
Your 3800 Regal should not create any additional work to remove/replace the factory starter...Ask your parts store to show you one...be sure to disconnect one side of the battery prior to any work around the starter...Should be just 3 bolts (plus 2 wire conncections) for the switch out...Hope this helps.
