TAC(throttle actuator control) and the TPS(throttle position sensor) have made my check engine light come on and it puts the car in "failsafe engine mode". PROBLEM: Ford/Mercury does not have the part because it's back ordered till December. What should I do in the mean time. I have to drive and it has to be safe because I have a child.
Try a salvage yard for the part. As soon as your new car left the lot it became a used car. Used cars run on used parts.
If the old part is a recall they will upgrade you regardless which part is on your car.
Check the internet and enter your part# in the search box of the Browser. You may get lucky for a new part.
The TPS switch is usually available at Autozone and similar parts stores. It is about a 20 minute job with most of that being removing the airbonnet and getting to the part.
The TAC may be at Autozone too.
Remember to disconnect neg battery cable for 10 minutes to reset computer.
This must be a major recall because Ford surpassed Toyota in its Parts system. They usually can get 98% of the parts in 24hours.

?€¢
Limited throttle mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
?€¢
Throttle default mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
?€¢
Forced idle mode--The control module will perform the following actions:
-
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.
-
Ignore accelerator pedal input.
?€¢
Engine shutdown mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.
You need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , probably a
accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor or TPS - throttle position sensor !
