Do you have gauges on this car also?
If so, you may have a problem with what is called a "current shunt" resistor. This will prevent the car from recharging the battery....accordianman

The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . GM calls it smart charging system . Running diagnostic check on all the modules on the vehicle may shed some light on the problem . Need a professional or factory scan tool to do this . The instrument cluster turns on the battery light when told by the BCM - body control module . A lot of complex electronic involved here , class 2 serial data communication network , modules sharing info on this network . It's hard to under stand whats happening when you don't know how all works .
Charging System Indicator
The body control module (BCM) sends a message to the IPC via the serial peripheral interface (SPI) requesting illumination. The IPC illuminates the charging system indicator when the following occurs:
• The PCM detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The BCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. The also BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle as commanded by the BCM. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
• The PCM determines that the ignition is on, with the engine off or the ignition is in the accessory position. The BCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting .
GM also had instrument cluster problems 2003 to 2006 . Buy a used one for $ 20.00 bucks at a automotive salvage yard an see if that fixes the problem . Without testing , check codes , this is just a guess .
2003 Chevy Silverado our rearview mirror has gone off and the airbag light stays on. i've determined that this is a fuse, the SIR fuse under the hood, but what I can't figure out is why it's blowing. It's either something to do with when we hook up the lights to the trailer or it might be from where we installed a new car stereo. I took it to the Chevy dealer for some other things and told them there was a fuse blown to the rearview mirror and to the airbag and just asked them to replace the fuse while it was in the shop. on top of the $700 i was already spending, they charged me $98 to diagnose that it was a blown fuse and like $11 to change it, even though I already told them it was the airbag fuse. Highway robbery. And they wonder why we don't like 'em.
Hello and welcome. this light comes on to warn you that there is a problem with the air bag system. when this light comes on, the air bag control module will store a trouble code, this code is used to help isolate the problem. what you will need to do first, is have the air bag system scanned for trouble codes. then a repair can be made on the system
dude you just got stung by passlok, the thing you put youre key in has an attitude if you phone youre chev dealer parts department and tell him the story [leave out the air bag part] he will sell you the the right stuff getting your ignition out is quite a piece of work get literature //after you fix it do this, battery charger leave key on for 10 mins to let the computer get to know the new piece then start it//must do this
Electronic Brake Control Module, I really don't understand why they would change this module if your message stated,Ride control, The ride control on the tahoes is an airbag (air powered shocks)
leveling system. If I remember right, they are only in the rear. They
are meant to raise or lower the rear end to be level with the front end.
To do this, it has air shocks in the back, which are controlled by a
computer and a compressor probably under the hood. Now, the light could
mean many things, the most common being that an airbag broke, and air
is leaking out. You may be able to hear a whine of the compressor
trying to keep it filled. Less common, but possible are that the
compressor is dead, or a line ruptured. The most common reason that the
air shocks go out, are when the vehicle is lifted (tire change or such)
without the leveling system being deactivated. Hope this helps. Good
luck.
