I have a 2005 avalanche 5.3L automatic I purchased last summer. I have had many problems since purchasing this vehicle. So I purchased a scan tool.

When I hook up my scan tool I get a spike in all of my readings. I had contacted the manufacturer of this OBD 2 scan tool and they told me to take it back and get another one. So I did. I still get this spike in all my readings. Can a remote start system cause interference in the vehicles electrical system? I have had all my grounds checked and are good.

What problems are you having ?

Well..If I were to spin my tires in the snow the engine continues revving a couple seconds as though something were stuck. If I do a rolling stop then proceed it will do so sluggish. If I do a pass on the highway it will kick in then back out. result sluggish. I get no DTC's showing. Have replaced both map and maf sensors as well as throttle body. I did get codes relating to transmission but took it to transmission shop and they couldn't find anything.

A power or ground may be bad to , from or inside of a control module .

Testimonial: "What is that module under the dash on drivers side? Is that for the transmission? I ask this because when I do spin my tires in snow I get a chatter type of sound down there. Something like if you were to scrape your finger back and forth on a speaker. I also get this sound once I start moving and reach a certain speed. Low speed. It does it only once there, but spinning tires it does it repeatedly until tires stop spinning."

Does it show to be on or off ?

  • rodger
    rodger Feb 23, 2019

I'm not sure. I don't think there is anything showing on the instrument cluster.

  • rodger
    rodger Feb 23, 2019

I'm assuming if it showed on the cluster it would be disabled. No light on so must be on.

The traction control when activating can make a clicking sound as it modulates the antilock braking system . It should reduce throttle though

What is your engine running charging voltage ?

  • rodger
    rodger Feb 23, 2019

It does not hold steady but 12 to 14 volts. I have seen it go lower and have heard this is normal for it to go up and down. Not sure though.

A bad diode in the alternator can cause interference in electrical systems . Can you test a sensor ground at the mass air sensor or manifold pressure sensor ? If the scan tool fluctuates a bad ground can be the problem .

Hi Rob. I haven't had a chance to test anything yet, but last night I was looking at the gauges and noticed my voltage reading was at 16 volts. Today it was reading just over 14 volts. It is pouring rain here today so I have to wait.

Hi again. Well I tested my alternator and it was leaking way too much ac volts. I changed my alternator and but.....I still get spikes in all my readings that drop to -93.8. That's when looking at my fuel trims. Other readings all have a glitch as well. I'm guessing but thinking the alternator that was in there(which was the wrong one to begin with) must have hurt the computer. The vehicle does run and idle good only I have this problem with those spikes as well as my transmission acting up. Transmission shop says all is good there and have changed pretty much everything already. I haven't tested the sensor wiring you mentioned still just because if something were wrong there I would have problems which would be different I think.

Possible that the diagnostic link connector has a feed or ground issue itself allowing false data flow .

Something else that happen the other day. I got stuck in the driveway at a friends,it was slushy so I give a little gas while rolling forward then stuck. Then I give it more gas still stuck in that position. no response from engine. I give it more gas. No response. So I put in reverse. I move a little bit then get stuck. In that same position I gave it more gas and no response from anything again. This happen before as well.

didnt you get a warrenty thrown in on a £37000 car,did this occur within 90 days of your purchase,if so go to trading standards you have a 90 day warrenty by law, sounds like they took there time finding the problem so they could not be liable for the repair bill, also visit the landyzone website i use it and its a great source of help and advise, get the landrover customer care no of another rr dealer and chat to lr people themselves and go to the vosa website and check on the recalls for range rovers.

good luck

SOURCE: Did not pass state inspection (vehicle)

First the fault codes,
U110C is No Fuel Level Bus Message
U0155 is No Cluster Bus Message.
Unfortunatly you have to be able to communicate with the instrument cluster with your scanner to diagnoise and I do not think an aftermarket scanner can do this.

How many gear shifts solenoids on a 2005 Chevy Avalanche

The 2005 Chevy Avalanche is available with different transmission and shift options, which can affect the number of transmission shift solenoids present.

However, generally, the 4-speed automatic transmission (4L60E) used in the 2005 Chevy Avalanche typically has a total of 7 transmission shift solenoids. These solenoids are used to control the activation and deactivation of the transmission's clutches and valves, allowing the vehicle to shift gears smoothly and seamlessly.

It's important to note that the number of transmission shift solenoids may vary depending on the year, model, and configuration of the Chevy Avalanche.

2005 avalanche Fog lights are staying on with

The fog lamps are computer controlled .the body control module (BCM) will energize the fog lamp relay control circuit. The BCM receives the park lamp ON signal from the interior park lamps supply voltage signal circuit.
DTC B2527 Front Fog Lamps Circuit Low
The body control module (BCM) monitors the front fog lamp switch signal circuit in order to determine when the fog lamp relay is to be energized. When the BCM senses that the front fog lamp switch signal circuit is grounded momentarily by pressing the fog lamp switch, the BCM energizes the fog lamp relay by grounding the fog lamp relay control circuit.

Your best bet , take it to the dealer . Could need BCM replaced , would need to do testing using the Tech 2 scan tool . A new BCM has to be programmed .

Body Control Module (BCM) Replacement
If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, the following procedures must be performed in the following order:
BCM Reprogramming--Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Computer/Integrating Systems.
Important: This procedure has to be performed only for vehicles equipped with the Passlock™ System.
Theft Learn--Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent. A new BCM will learn the Passlock™ information automatically, but the powertrain control module (PCM) must still learn the theft information from the BCM.

Correct CAN/OBD2 Reader/Scanner

Hi Solomon, If you would like to buy a scanner you should be aware that using the device points you in the direction of a fault but is not an automatic fix for your vehicle. As an example, the diagnostic scanner may indicate a fault with the throttle position sensor. You go out, buy a replacement, fit it and after fitting the same fault shows up again, because the problem is with the adjustment not the unit. I like the Carman Scan. Regards John

Cracked drivers side heated signal mirror for 2004 Avalanche, should I just replace glass mirror?

Most heated mirrors on vehicles are made together. In other words, just replacing the mirror may or may not fix your problem. It would be more economical to purchase the entire assembly and replace it.

What does the check engine light mean on the 92 town car.

If lit, it means that a DTC or diagnostic trouble code is stored in the computer.
Have it scanned or get the DTC interpreted by looking up the code in the service manual.

HAND-HELD SCAN TOOLS Although stored codes may be read through the flashing of the CHECK ENGINE or SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp, the use of hand-held scan tools such as Ford's Self-Test Automatic Readout (STAR) tester or the second generation SUPER STAR II tester or their equivalent is highly recommended. There are many manufacturers of these tools; the purchaser must be certain that the tool is proper for the intended use. The scan tool allows any stored faults to be read from the engine controller memory. Use of the scan tool provides additional data during troubleshooting, but does not eliminate the use of the charts. The scan tool makes collecting information easier, but an operator familiar with the system must correctly interpret the data. Fig. 1: Super Star II tester - Ford Motor Co. 84924047.gif

Fig. 3: An economically friendly alternative is this Code Scanner® from SunPro. They are purchased according to manufacturer and are available at many parts stores 91054p14.jpg
Fig. 4: The Code Scanner® from SunPro has no LCD display, just a LED that will flash out the codes and an audible buzzer to alert that the test is in progress 91054p16.jpg
