I have a 1999 Mercedes E320. I tried connecting a splitter to my cigarette lighter port but as soon as I did smoke started coming out and it smelled like burnt plastic. Now when I try to connect anything it no longer works... any ideas on what happened? Or will I have to replace the whole Mercedes Cigarette Lighter connection?

It sounds like the fuse went out.

The cigarette lighter fuse is either 2 or 5 in the main fuse box.

Here's a diagram:

You can buy the fuses at Autozone, and often if you ask nicely they'll replace them for you.

Most likely just replace it. You could pull the fuse and then use a small screwdriver to try and pull the tabs inside the receiver in toward the center a little. It could be that repeated insertion and extraction of the lighter or accessory plug has bent them outward enough that they're not making sufficient contact to power what you plug in. If that doesn't work, replace it and then put the fuse back in.

SOURCE: how do you replace a fuse for cigarette lighter in 1999 chevy mal

The fuse box for the 99 malibu is right next to the battery, under the hood. It is a 30amp "mini fuse". You can find a chart for which fuse to which circuit, by looking at the lid for the fuse box. This is one of the things I like about the car. If you are using the cigarrette lighter for smoking materials, clean the ashes and residue off the cigarrette lighter (when its cool) with a brass brush, outside the car. Do not let cigarrete material build up in the lighter or it will short.

Under the hood directly in front of the driver is a covered fuse block. Remove the cover and the fuse is #34.

40 Amp fuse keeps blowing immediately after I put it in and turn the key.

Possibly but more likely you've disturbed the wiring and it is now causing a short circuit

Mercedes e320 1994 ... Battery has been draining...

Hello. Your Mercedes E320 has an electrical 'short' somewhere. Check your cigarette lighter and other 'power point' accessories. That 'short' is not bad enough to 'trip' a circuit breaker or fuse but it will 'drain/discharge the battery in time. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

How to run a cigarette lighter for a 97 Saturn sl2 all the wires are taped off and many colors

Hi Nate:
Black is usually ground, so check with your continuity meter between a black wire and a frame component such as the bracket that the brake pedal is mounted on. The outside of the lighter will need to be connected to ground.
Check to see if there is a fuse for the lighter. You may be able to see the color of the wire. If not, you could use trial and error and your meter to find the wire. Pull the fuse, and from the "downstream" side, check for continuity to the individual taped off wires. Eventually you will find the right one. It will need to be connected to the center or positive terminal of the lighter.
Put the fuse back in, and it should work.
Now that I've tried to help you, I get to give you some more free information:
- I am a cancer survivor.
- Surgery sucks.
- Radiation sucks.
-Chemotherapy sucks.
- Central nervous system (spinal cord) chemotherapy REALLY sucks.
- Cigarettes cost a LOT of money. If you don't think so, don't smoke but put $10.00 a day in your savings account. Total $3,650 a year.
- Your car will smell bad. (so will you and chicks will notice)
My advice? Use the lighter as a power port for charging your electronics.
If that's what you were going to do, then pass on my un-necessary information to some young person who is just starting to smoke.
Cheers in good health!

Which fuse is the cigaret lighter fuse in a 2003 e320. the cigaret lighter is not working

Engine compartment (left side), fuse #1 and #6. In MB cigar lighter only works when key is on.

I think you have a W211 if it's a sedan. W210 only goes thru 2002.

Also check the lighter filament. It may just be burned out.
