Depends on what needs wiring, id find a haynes manual in paper or digital form and find out, usually they have all the wiring info youd need but it really depends on what your wiring up.

International Harvester IDI (from Indirect Injection) engine is a 4-stroke 8-cylinder Diesel engine used in International Harvester trucks,
like all diesels check fuel filters first. (service)
then make sure glow plugs work. (fsm covers this)
then scan it EFI for DTC errors. got errors?
direct injection uses EFI.

IF DIY, you need the book, I promise.....
its not simple like old diesels were.

It started without the distributor cap? That is impossible. I suspect you may have plug wires mixed up. Make sure it is wired as the diagram shows. Also replace the rotor.
