SOURCE: P0442 Evap system small leak--What

P0442 Means you have a leak in your EVAP system.
The EVAP system prevents gas vapors from entering the air .
This code can be set by a leak in the lines or a clogged charcoal canister.
Most common reason is If you did not put your gas cap on all the way.
Hope this helps

Ihave dodge caravan sport 2001 and ihave this code in my car-p0442 how i fixed ?

This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. .The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal

With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Few places to check - rubber hose under air box (requires removing the air box) and hoses connecting to EVAP system under the van on the drivers side.

What is the diagnostic codes P 0700 P1684 p0442 p0455 p0456 on a 2001 dodge Caravan with a 3 3"

P0700: EATX Controller DTC present
P1684: Battery was desconnected
P0442: EVAP leak monitor medium (.040). Leak detected.
P0455:
EVAP leak monitor large. Leak detected.
P0456: EVAP leak monitor small (.020). Leak detected.

I suggest check the lines and flow it down to the ldp (leak detection pump) that is just behind the steering gear under the van It has a wire connector and 2 large EVAP hoses. look for any split or crack then follow the lines back to the tank. Even a small crack is a leak.

Hope helped with this. Remember rated this help. Good luck.

2001 dodge stratus check engine light with code p0442 what can it be? thanks

P0442 is a medium evaporative system leak detected. Check your gas cap and make sure it is on tight and the rubber seal is in good shape. If it was loose, tighten it and the check engine light will exstinguish after a few days on its own. If not this usually means there is a small hose in the system that has developed a small split. It could be several other things as well, it is "usually" a hose. You need to take it to a shop that can proform diagnostics to locate the leak.

Here is a list of possable causes;
POSSIBLE CAUSES
LEAK AT GAS CAP

EVAP PURGE SOLENOID OPERATION

INTERMITTENT LDP MONITOR FAILURE

EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEAK DETECTION

GAS CAP

LDP COMPONENT LEAK
