You can access the fuel pump one of 2 ways. dropping the tank, or if your lucky, you may be able to get to it from the trunk, or under the back seat. You are looking for a round plastic access panel under the carpeting in the trunk or the seat.

SOURCE: buick regal 92 3.8L Horrible fuel mileage

Sounds like you might have an oxygen sensor problem. Your catalytic converter(s) maybe defective or dirty. That in turn can dirty up the oxygen sensor. A defective oxygen sensor will send faulty info to the computer, interpreting the fumes as cold (even when the engine warms up). That causes the computer to adjust the fuel mixture to very rich, giving you poor gas mileage and the fuel smell. Hope it helps.

SOURCE: How do I replace a fuel pump on a 1993 Buick Rega?

Follow the steps given below:

  1. Disconnect battery.
  2. Relieve fuel pressure.
  3. Remove tank from car.
  4. Use compressed air to clean the tank, then spray with oil from an aerosol can to reduce the likelihood of combustion.
  5. Use a hammer and brass drift, turn the lock ring counterclockwise to unlock.
  6. Lift the tank unit upwards out of the tank. Tilt as needed to avoid bending the sender float. Fold the pickup screen if needed.
  7. Look inside the tank for and sediment or flotsam that may need to be removed.
  8. Unplug the tank unit to pump electrical connector.
  9. Unclamp the pump to tank unit hose and replace pump and hose.
  10. Install as reverse of above.

1989 buick regal custom 2.8L starts and runs fine cold. stop and let it set over ten minutes, and it won't start again until it cools down...2 hours. Replaced crank sensor, still happens. No cam sensor...

If I remember correctly (and I admit that my memory isn't what it used to be), the steel fuel from the fuel pump to the carburetor runs up and over the front of the engine. If you live in a warm climate, you ma have fuel percolating in that line after the engine heats up. If that is the correct routing of the fuel supply line, try wrapping the upper portion of the steel line with some small pipe insulation, and see what happens. If that doesn't help, post back and I'll search the memory banks some more. Good luck.

I'm having problems with my '90 Buick Regal Custom's fuel pump. Where can I locate this under the hood, so that I can replace it?

the pump is in the fuel tank. you either have to drop the tank or there is a access hole in the trunk. did you check fuses and relats?

Buick regal 3.1 new battery new fuel filter won't start

I agree. that's preety much all there is to the fuel system. All fuel rails have the release valve. If you could get your hands on fuel pressure tester, that would be helpful. Also have someone stand by tank and listen to see if they hear the pump kick on when you turn car to on position
