Passenger side, outer kick panel. There is usually a small black box, less than the size of a deck of cards, that has a circle Red button on it. If the cutoff button has been triggered, just pushing the red button down or in will turn it back on.

My 1972 Vw bug won't start anymore. It acts like

The basic process is to check for spark at the coil and the plugs, then check for gas in the carb. If you have spark, it should try to start with carb cleaner sprayed into the carb throat.
If it does, you then check for fuel pump pressure in the line between the pump and the carb.

1972 VW Bug ignition switch

Put the Key in the ignition and turn the key. It should disengage the steering lock and you should be able to pull it out. Make sure you unplug the switch from the back.
