Fill the coolant to hot full. start it and get it to operating temperature, watch the tank because when the T stat opens the coolant tank will drop. Fill it hot full again, maybe just an inch or so over full. put the cap on. What I do is find a parking lot and drive around in circles( as fast as you can, 15 MPH is what I try to hit), left , then right. Doing this purges the air out of the heater core. It has worked on every car I have done. Even the impossible Ford taurus's

Testimonial: "ok i will try that done everything else including new thermastat and water pump"

Lots of air in system. Close valve, helper depresses peddle, open and close valve to extract air - fluid without lifting peddle. With valve closed lift and depress peddle again. Repeat process many times until clear and steady while watching master cyl fluid level never gets lower than 1/3. Having the fluid extraction hose in a clear container immersed in fluid will aid in seeing air bubbles.

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix gxp overheats after only driving 10 to 15 miles the ac off for engine protection comes on then coolant hot mil comes on. What is the best suggestion for this fix?

First check to see if fan motors are working. If they are then sounds like new thermostat And after you put in new thermostat don't forget to bleed the air out of system with engine running. Bleed screws should be on manifold on front of engine. If you don't bleed the air out then it will overheat. I had same problem but the only thing I forgot to do after changing coolant and thermostat was bleeding the air. Good luck

Air lock in cooling system

If the question is, what do you do, you would bleed the system.
If there is no bleed screw near the upper radiator hose, you would need to run the engine with the radiator cap loose until the thermostat opens and then add coolant.
It can be very messy.

2006 Chevy equinox ls 3.1 how do you bleed the radiator coolant system

If you look on the passenger front of the engine you should see a pipe coming up from the water pump housing. There should be a bleeder screw on the top. use a 9/32" socket to loosen the bleeder. Start the engine and keep bleeder open until coolant comes out. Close it and let the engine come up to temp while periodically opening the bleeder to let any additional air out. Keep an eye on the coolant level and top off as necessary.

Loosen the bleed valve Run the engine until it's hot and when the coolant runs in a steady stream thru the bleed valve(no more bubbles)tighten the bleed valve

How do you bleed the cooling system on 2006 equinox? help!!

Well if you mean the A/C system unless you have a safe way to discharge the A/C coolant you should take it to a shop and have them do it. Plus after you are done you will need a vaccum pump to **** all the air out of the system otherwise when you put freon in it it wont work. That and dont forget its illegal to discharge an A/C system without having the proper equipment. Freon Damages the ozone or so they say.. Now if you are talking about the Antifreeze get a pair of vicegrips and remove the radiator hose from the bottom of the radiator.

2006 Equinox over-heating

There is a few things that could course your car to be over heating

  • Air In Cooling System
  • Coolant Leak
  • Water Pump Failure
  • Head Gasket Failure
These are some of the common problems as your car is reasonable new i would't think the head gasket has gone it is more then likely what you say that the water pump is broke probably the impaler has broken off. To bleed the system you need to get it up to running temperature and remove the bleed screws in the cooling system starting from the highest one working down then back up. If you find it is hard to bleed and no coolant is being pushed out it is more then likely that the water pump has gone. To test if the head gasket has gone take off the oil cap and look for a mayo type gunk around it if there is then this means that water is getting into the oil system meaning the head gasket has gone another test is to use a spacial liquid that test for exhaust gases in the coolant system.
