Where do i find my transfer case and what fluid does it use

1. Be sure to run your car (in 4WD) for about 5-10 minutes or so to warm the oil up and be sure to park on a level ground.First we need to gather our materials. This is what I used for my oil change:Initial expenses
  • Oil Catcher - $10 at Pep Boys
  • Fluid Pump - $5 at Pep Boys
  • 24mm wrench or ratchet (assumed ownership)
  • 12mm? and 14mm? sockets to remove skidplate
Transfer Case Change Expenses
  • 3 Qt 75W90 Gear Oil - $21
  • (I used Redline from myoilshop.com)
tcase1-nggid03733-ngg0dyn-320x240x100-00f0w010c010r110f110r010t010.jpg 2. Locate the Transfer Case.
Remove the Fill Hole plug first, then place your oil catcher in position, and remove the drain hole plug.
While the oil drains, clean off the drain plug.
tcase2-nggid03734-ngg0dyn-320x240x100-00f0w010c010r110f110r010t010.jpg
3. When finished draining, replace the drain plug, and proceed to pump the fluid into the fill hole.
I filled until the fluid overran, but you can check the fluid by sticking a pinky into the hold and checking the level.
Replace the fill hole plug, and done.

Checking manual transmission fluid

You will need to locate the fill plug which should be on the side of the transmission case about half way up. It might be a normal bolt head, or a square head, or a hex recess "Allen" head.

With the car reasonably level (wheel ramps on a slight slope will do this) and the car warmed up, remove the fill plug. Hold a rag underneath the hole because oil may pour out. The correct level is full to the lower edge of the fill hole.

If not so, use a whisker like a twist tie, or thin twig, or similar to find how far below the hole is the fluid level. If more than 5mm or so, obtain the correct grade of oil in a squeeze bottle with a plastic tube in the cap, and fill to the correct level.

If it has never been changed in a long time, you should drain and replace the oil. There will be a drain plug at the lower rear of the trans case, or on the very bottom. Some cars use the bottom most assembly bolt on the trans housing as a drain plug. Consult your owners handbook for a clue.

Cant find where to put transmission fluid in 2000 mitsubishi monterro sport 4x4 automatic

Take a look at the transmission oil pan. If you see two drain plugs than you have the trans without the dipstick. One of the plugs is actually the drain plug. The other one is the fill plug. More often than not When you go to remove the fill plug the nut on the inside of the pan breaks free from the pan casing the plug to just turn. The norm is to have to replace the pan anytime a service or fill is needed. If you have the trans with a dipstick than you can add the fluid through the dipstick tub with a small funnel.

I was just wondering how much oil my gearbox and transfer case should be put in , its a 91 swb ubs55 irmsher bighorn with a manual 5 speed and is deisel, thanks

Use a standard 80/90 gear lube. Fill it from the fill hole until it just barely begins to seep out that fill hole. Wipe the metal off the plug and plug the pumpkin and you are good to go.

How to refill brake fluid in 1995 hyundai elantra?

Hello,

Manual trans: remove the filler plug (high up on the drivers side of the car... looking at it from underneath) stick a thin hose attached to a fluid pump into the trans until it touches the bottom then **** the old fluid out. then fill to the bottom of the fill plug hole with the correct oil (75W-80W gear oil), replace the filler plug.
Automatic trans: remove the drain plug on the pan, drain into a container, remove pan, clean or replace filter/screen, replace pan, fill with correct oil (not common Dexron II or III -- Hyundai ATF SP-II or Chrsyler spec 7176).

1. When refilling, remove dipstick to provide adequate venting and allow oil to flow into crankcase.
2. With ENG at operating temperature, shift through all gears. Check fluid level in PARK and add fluid as needed.
3. Fill to no more than 1/4 to 9/16" below fill plug hole.
4. Fill no higher than 9.5 mm or 3/8" below fill plug.

I need to find where to add transmision fluid 2000 vette

Is it a manual or automatic trans? If it's auto trans, there will be a dipstick tube near the firewall on the passenger side. You fill the trans through the dipstick tube with a funnel.Careful not to overfill. If it's a manual trans, there will be a plug halfway up the side of the trans.Remove the plug & fill till it starts to leak out the plug hole.Be sure to use the recommended fluid in either case.Good luck,
