More than likely the valves in the head are damaged. The ribs have torn off the belt and that is why it doesn't turn. It is very important to change the belt at 60k miles along with the pulley and tensioner.

You should do a compression check to see if the valves are really bent.

SOURCE: timing belt on my 2002 hyundai accent 1.6 liter 4cyl

DID THE BELT BREAK AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED. If so then you may have bent valve. IF NOT then vehicle may be timed wrong. Here is a diagram of your timing marks, http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/tec_info/2002/hyundai/accent/2002_hyundai_accent_timing_belt_diagram_marks.htm contact if you need more help. replace the belt with a new one, when you do the water pump, reset the timing and give it a start,if it works, then you can SMILE,if not, you can use the belt/water pump on the new engine.gotta be the cheapest way forward.......

SOURCE: engine light flashing whole car shakes and motor sounds like a helacopter..... tested it and it said spark plug 4 misfired........... replaced all 4 spark plugs and it's still reading as a misfired s

Sounds like it's either a coil pack or an injector to me, try switching the number four coil pack with any of the other coil packs if the miss follows the coil pack you need to replace that coil pack. if not it's either a fuel injector or a mechanical problem inside the motor, I would rent noid lights from a local auto parts store and look for injector pulse in the cylinder with a misfire, if the noid light is flashing it may be better to leave it to a professional as it is likely internal engine damage. hope that helps. chris

Testimonial: "Thanks Chris, I just took it down to auto zone to see if it was the spark plug wires, the looked fine...... but the guy said it could be internal too. he said it could be the coils...... but I don't know how to change them, i'm not much of a car buff"

2001 chevy Malibu belt slipping off, put it back on and it slipped off again. It's like something isn't spinning right.

Since the belt is off already check all pulleys if they spin freely. Check with the engine OFF, all pulleys should spin freely except the crank (big one at the bottom). If everything is spinning smoothly check the belt tensioner if it still has decent spring pressure to keep tension on the belt

Motor free spinning like no compression an wont start

I would check my timing belt/chain if the belt has broken or skipped teeth your engine willact like it has no compression because the valves are not working properly to let air gas spark in when its supposed to.

1991 GMC seirra 545 7.4L. How do know if ac motor seized? Does the motor spin freely, or is it only powered by the belt?

the inner part of clutch will or will not spin. the belt runs on a pulley that has a electro magnetic clutch that will turn the shaft of the compressor. you should clearly see the clutch on the outside of the pulley turn that part with engine off by hand is should turn,,,

Passenger side underneath the hood is now smoking and making a weird noise that is constantly loudly scretching when the car is still and when it is in motion. I lifted the hood, and it looks like smoke is...

That smoke is coming from the belt because, i think your alternator pulley is locked up.Take the belt off and see if you can spin the alternator pulley freely by hand.If it can't spin freely replace alternator. These alternators have a bearing in the center that sometimes seizes up.

V.w.jetta gas eng. timing belt broke ? .shut engine off then wood not start . dealer says needs head work ? bent valves? without disasembling is it possible valves never came into contact with pistons ?

Hi, im afraid i can only give you bad news im afraid, if the engine was running even on tick over when the belt snapped then this would have caused the valves to smash into the pistons as the top half of engine would have stopped spinning leaving at least 2 valves in the out position but what causes the damage is the bottom half of the engine, as their is no weight on the cams to keep them turning they stop at once but the bottom half the crank has a big weight called the fly wheel now when the belt snapped the cams would have stopped dead but the crank would have carried on turning under its own weight and this is what causes the piston or pistons to hit the valves this then causes the valves to bend and all the valves will need replacing and the whole top end rebuilding with new seals and the new valves and valve seats will need grinding in.

how ever as its only usually the top half that gets damaged you could save yourself some time and money by calling a local breakers yard and see if they have a cylinder head lying around or even a whole engine as the cost of rebuilding you head and engine would cost more than it would to get a second hand cylinder head or if you didnt want to take any chances look into getting a whole engine.

look at the costs involved get a quote off you garage for the head rebuilt and new valves, tell them worse case if it needed complete head rebuild with all new valves and valve seats and all the seals get a price on the whole job then ask them how much it would cost if you supplied a working cylinder head or even whole engine then compare the prices and check with some breakers for cylinder head prices or engine and you should find that a second hand head will work out cheaper than having yours stripped and rebuilt with new parts.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

please rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Clothes comes out of the washer after spin cycle soaking wet

you may have a belt that fell off the pump that throws water to the sewer / it's down in the bottom / just follow the hoses you will see them .belt from motor goes over a small pump's pully that's the water pump. if the pump is turning freely it should pump unless the hoses are clogged with lint , my guess is the belt needs replacing and check the tension on the new 1 on install. if it's not that then it may be a bad pump /try and flush it out if it still doesnt work , buy a new pump or new machine . if it's old then might be time for a new 1 anyways .

Serpentine belt

The pulley's aren't supposed to spin freely with the belt on. The belt connects all the pully's to the crankshaft, which does not spin freely because it is attached to the pistons inside the engine. To turn the pulleys, you have to turn the crankshaft, which in turn moves the pistons inside the engine up and down.
