Hey there. Me and my boyfriend own a fiat grande punto, and after having been away for a while it now needs an oil change. My boyfriend being an engineer, he loves to tinker around, and decided that he wants to do the oil chage himself. He already ordered most of the parts so he will be ready to go soon, but he has never done it before and I am worried about anything going wrong. Do amateurs often do the change themselves, and if yes, is it dangerous? I don't want him to get squashed under the car, or to damage the car but he is more important of course ; And what do we need to be careful with? Many thanks in advance.
Nothing to worry about. I'd recommend getting car ramps. As long as he half way knows what to do then the both of you will be fine.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the quick reply, that is really reassuring. He does not have ramps at this point in time, but he decided to order some (initially he was planning on just using the lifting mechanisms that was included in the oil change kit we got at the mechanics, but decided it was best to be safe. Now we just need to hope he does not completely mess up to car ;)"
