Check engine light on? If so scan transmission control module for any codes applicable to this problem. I would suspect a problem in the valve body assembly. Possible valve body itself or solenoid controlling valve body operation. A scan tool may be required to monitor the clutch volume index as there may be an issue with the clutches as well. You may be in store for an overhaul if there is high mileage on the vehicle

SOURCE: hard down shift

I've read article after article on Chrysler forums where anything other than Autopar ATF in their transmissions cause problems, erratic shifting, etc, including what your experiencing. The techs that deal with it daily through Chrysler/Dodge shops, say there is some properties or chemicals in Autopar fluid, that others just don't have, no matter what they say, and they have proven it, time after time, with symptoms that disappear, just by changing fluids to Autopar. My wife's relatives own one of the more respected & trusted repair shops in our area, and they swear by that rule too, because they've also experienced it in the past. I'm naturally assuming you know that your experienced enough to know how to install filter properly & what to watch for, so with that said, I hate to say it, but Mopar ATF4 is the one & only fluid for best results. P.S. I recently had my transmission with 260,000km. replaced at Ontario Reman, whom back when I was with Chrysler, was the sole supplier of rebuilt engines & transmissions for Chrysler. When I questioned them on the fluid in my new/rebuild they responded with same answer, Mopar ATF and nothing else. If you do some googling on it, you'll find many that went to quick lube or similar for same service only to experience shifting problems etc after. Switched back to autopar as advised & problems went away. Can't say 100% that's your problem, but if it were me, I'd change it.

replace the input speed sensor to transmission and the wiring pigtail all are available at your chrysler dealer take your vehicle registration in to the parts counter so they have your vin # to get the right part and it is the front of trans by fluid linres to radiator.

SOURCE: Transmission Not Going into Overdrive

First check and make sure the fluid is full. The most likely cause is a failed solenoid pack. Circuit codes normally mean something electrical not mechanical has failed. The solenoid pack is on the outside of trans pretty easy to replace.

SOURCE: transmission won't shift into 3rd

the trans has a serious failure, that is why the metal, it can be overhauled for less than a replacement

SOURCE: shifting gears

the speed sensor is for Overdrive only, it does not shift the gears it sends the signal to the transmission control module that in turn signals the overdrive shift solenoid to engage/shift into OD.

Tranny shifting hard in and out of gears

This transmission is electronicly shifted by the computer (transmission control module) First thing i'd recomend is changing the trans. fluid & filter ( depending on what engine you have the trans may not have a serviceable filter ) Change the fluid and add 1 bottle of LUCAS trans.treatment = 1 QT.

Transmission problems

there are two speed sensors that determine when to shift. input and output speed sensor. there are black and gray and located on the front of the trans under the air filter elements. they are pretty cheap, and i would suggest a trans fluid change too.
