1991 honda accord starts intermittently. When it doesn't the gas guage goes below E. Gets spark, no fuel. Already changed main relay.

Hey man if you already changed out the relay i would try changing your fuel pump and sending unit that should stop both of your problems.

I have a 1991 Honda accord ex..it has been sitting for years now it wont start where should I start I was told that the gas turns to funk after sitting for a long time.

if it is posible for you to drain the the old gasoline out and refill the tank with fresh gasoline that would be great, but if you only have a1/4 tank and draining the tank is not posible fill your tank up with supreme gas not regular the better grade gas with the high octane will dilute the old gas and help burn off the gas when the car starts.if you have more then 1/2 a tank try to pump out the gas with a driil pump, you can buy these a your local hardware store insert hose in filler neck of the tank.you should also remove the spark plugs and with and oil can add 8 good pumps of the can of motor oil in the cylinders do not replace plugs **** with a freshly charged battery turn the engine over few time in 2 or 3 second intervals this will kleen any rust that would have built up on the cylinder walls and also lube up the cylinder wall so that at start up the cylinder wont be dry ,add a few more sqirts of oil between turnovers.Replace spark plug if old ones look bad put spark plug in and start her up its going to smoke a bit at firts **** it will stop after the oil that was put in the cylinders burns off,let the engine idle for 10-15 minutes before putting any strain on motor give it a chance to clean out cylinders burn a few tanks of gas and change gas filter it should be fine.

Fuel starvation. How well do you trust your fuel gauge?
Also check you gas tank for damage, dent or otherwise.
Possible at speed fuel shifts towards fuel pump and away
when stopped.

How do i repair the gas gauge on 1991 honda accord ex. it shows full to 3/4 tank regardless of how much is in there

The problem is in the float mechanism in the tank which is also connected to the fuel pump. You must drop the tank and remove the pump and mechanism then replace the sending unit and float assy

1991 Accord: I have a 1991 honda accord ex and after the hoses ...

You may have a cracked head, block or blown head gasket that is leaking combustion gas into the cooling system. If you dont have a combution leak detector kit you can take it to a trusted mechanic tell them the problems you've had and the parts you've replaced. Ask them to check for a combustion leak in the cooling system. A minor combustion leak in the cooling system can sometimes mimic the symptoms of overheating.

Gas light stays on even when tank is full

the float sensor attahced to your fuel pump sounds as though it is not working properly. Usually this occurs when the car rides on E many times and becomes damaged. depending on the model it may be necessary to replaced the sensor assembly or if it is the complete unit the whole fuel pump.

Also, depending on your driving habits your car can use more gas if your are driving in traffic (stop and go). Average out your fuel mileage by filling up a few times and keeping a log of the gas consumed. Do this by reseting the trip meter when you fill up and when you fill up again divide the total mileage on your trip meter by the amount of gas you used by getting the amount of gallons it took to fill up again. ex. 360miles divided by 10gals = 36 miles per gallon.

note. make sure you check your air filter (is it clean?) and tire pressure (32psi) these can be contributing factors to poor gas mileage

Gas gauge does not work on my accord

you may have damaged the fuel gauge when you were messing with the gauge cluster, they can be very delicate.

Check you connections real well.

Could be also, just by coincindence that the sending unit in the gas tank has gone bad.

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
