Hi, my 2000 3 litre V6 'S' Type 46.000 miles has a misfire. No engine managemant lights appear. Put the engine under load in a high gear and it misses badly on more than one cylinder. Also misses a beat at times on tickover. I changed the plugs but its still the same. Any ideas

As long as the engine is from the same generation of Sebring the body type should have nothing to do with the engine that is in it. 1998 makes yours a Generation One model. 2000/2001 was about the year the second generation, 'Face lift', version was released so make sure it is the correct engine.
The newer generations were upgraded to the 2.7 litre, 3.0 litre and the 3.5 litre V6 engines so if the new one is a 2.5 it should fit.

Misfire.
You will need to get the car plugged with a diagnostic computer to see what is engine is saying.
It could be number of things. it could have blocked one of your fuel injector which is causing the car to misfire.

You may need just a good old fashioned tune up, the vehicle may be at high enough rpms during idle with no load (park or neutral) however under acceleration or idle with load (in gear) the misfire is felt. try plugs,wires,and filters all around.

Had a similar problem, cannot explain it but dealer stated that we needed a new software update in the computer of the car. Once they did this the transmission shifted better and did not miss in high gear. I don't understand why this fixed it when we did not have a problem with it before, you would think that with this type of fix this issue would have happened when first purchased not 2 years later.

no, and you were down a litre that wont matter, it sounds like a bad coil boot or coil thats arcing out on a load, i think this car has coils that go onto the plugs and the boots go bad, you can replace the boot on some cars without replacing the whole coil, you may want to tune up the car if its been a while and has over 70,000 miles,also if the engine was misfiring then the computer would pick up the misfire and store a code, this code which can be pulled with a scan tool, or most auto part stores will scan the computer and give you the code the code will tell you which cylinder is misfiring this way if it still misfires after the tuneup then you would need to replace the coil for that cylinder, heres a few diagrams showing the coil and theres one for every cylinder and then the boot which is sold speratly, hope this is helpful,

Have someone scan for fault codes. If you have a misfire condition , damage to the converter can occur.Whateveris tripping the light is held in memory until corrected. Good Luck

Right first of all your not talking to it right,throw the chewing gum away and put a plum in your mouth with a stiff upper lip say..i say you upstart unless you run right i will take the audi to the golf course ,then get the valet to give it good clean and a nice bit of stuff to recolonise the seats..If this doesnt wor then renew spark plugs with a multi tipped bosch type.and renew the HT leads .As a brit with a jag myself i can assure you these cars have a mind of their own and always work better when they are clean and well polished
