How do you know the timing needs to be set? Check library for a repair manual. Usually the timing marks are marked on the front balancer pully mark the designated mark with something like whiteout so you can see it properly with a timing light.

SOURCE: set timing on 1989 f150 5.0

Run codes first and allow it to enter self test mode. The computer is at fault or the circuit related to the PIP. I don't think you are doing anything wrong in setting the timing as it is supposed to advance beyond the initial setting once the PIP bus is reinserted..

Sounds like you have the timing belt off a notch or two. Set the crank pulley at the notch and TDC then remove the top screws on the belt cover and pull the cover back far enough to shine a light to check the cam pulley mark against the notch it should align with !

Setting timing on 1965 buick 300 ci motor

Window on distributor cap is to set dwell, not timing. You can set dwell by removing the distributor cap and gapping the points to specification, then verifying with a dwell meter. If dwell is off, remove the distributor cap and adjust as needed.
To set timing, use a timing light and highlight the appropriate mark on the harmonic damper (i.e., 8 degrees BTDC). With the vacuum line disconnected from the distributor, and the engine idling at the specified speed, view the timing with the timing light and adjust as necessary by rotating the distributor. Once set, tighten the distributor hold down bolt.

What degree should timing be set on 1984 vw rabbit?

most static settings are 10 degrees btdc
timing lights will be at the 10 degree btdc mark
the workshop manual will have the manufacturers specs but timing can be changed to suit the octane rating of the fuel used but even that is limited to one or 2 degrees either side of the 10

What is distributor timing for 1964 buick skylark 300 motor

The timing is 2 1/2 degrees BTDC. The point gap is .016 and the dwell is 30. To set the dwell turn the adjusting screw clockwise until the engine starts to misfire and then back it off 1/2 turn. Hope this helps.

Setting timing

I think one must adjust the timing by advancing or retarding the ignition timing, not by adjusting the timing light.

If you are trying to set the BASE timing, you probably need to connect the orange/red and green/white wires of the blue service check connector with a jumper wire. The blue service check connector is located on passenger side under the dashboard.

The timing mark for this vehicle is on the flexplate / flywheel, and is usually located by removing a little rubber stopper or lifting off an inspection cover.

The timing is PROBABLY 15 degrees BTDC +/- 2 degrees. Be aware that many hondas PRIMARY ignition mark IS 15 degrees BTDC, NOT ZERO... so when you line the pointer and the flash up with the line, it is properly adjusted.
