Raise and support the rear of vehicle, then disconnect all fuel, vacuum lines, electrical wires that go to the fuel tank. disconnect the fuel filler neck from gas tank, support the fuel tank with a jack, disconnect the fuel tank support straps and lower tank looking for anything that you may have overlooked to disconnect.

The fuel filter is located inside the gas tank and is not considered a routine maintenance item. If there is a ecm trouble code that indicates the filter or fuel supply is faulty, then the filter ahs to be removed from tank. I've added a discussion blog which addresses the fuel filter.
