You could have a faulty oil pressure sensor. SAFETY FIRST!! block rear wheels and emergency brake, jack up car on left side high enough to get under, place jack stand. disconnect neg. battery cable, get under and locate oil filter, above it is a sensor(switch) with one connector, unplug it, connect battery cable and start engine if the guage does not move, you got it! disconnect battery cable again. get new sensor, any auto parts store, remove old sensor with 3/4" deep socket or sensor socket, install new one, connect the electrical plug in. connect battery, start engine, hopefully, a good oil pressure! Happy switching!

When oil is cold, pressure will read high, but as it warms up pressure indicator should drop to normal. Are you using the correct weight oil for your weather conditions? Running straight 30 weight, or say 20w50 could cause this issue.

What to check when oil pressure gauge flucuates while driving a jeep cherokee

To verify there is a problem, remove the oil pressure sending unit, replace it with a test gauge, start the car, idle, accelerate etc and watch the gauge for any abnormal variations it should react to evry change in acceleration and not be below the minimum or above the max as per the service specs.

2002 jeep grand cherokee shows no oil pressure on the gauge, but is running okay

check the pressure sending unit. the sensor (on Fords) is usually near the oil filter. not sure on your 4.0L 318(5.2L).

Did you compare what your dash gauge read when it was acting up and compare it to the manual gauge at the same time? I know you said you used the manual gauge and it read fine so if you get a proper reading out of the manual gauge and an improper reading out of the dash gauge then your dash gauge needs addressed.

Oil gauge maxes out whin key is turn to on but before engine is started, when started gauge stays in the max out postion. what might the problem be?thank you

The oil pressure sensor has failed. Check to see if the wire has not been knocked off when the oil filter was changed. I think the sensor is either by the oil filter or at the rear top of the engine where the trans bolts up. If the wire is good and connected have the sensor replaced.

My 94 jeep grand cherokee goes in and out of overdrive while driving and its hard time shifting and my oil presure gauge is maxed out while this is happening what my problem?

that sounds like two different problems...transmission going in and out of overdrive, sure sounds like transmission is slipping...Take that to you mechanic to have them positively identify that...oil pressure maxed, might be a faulty gauge just pinned to the max point as well...does the oil gauge work when you drive......?

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

02 jeep grand cherokee 4.7 eng

Hook up a manifold gauge (mechanical temporary use gauge, used by mechanics) and test the oil pressure. You probably need to replace the gauge. The computer sends info through a printed circuit board behind gauge cluster and sometimes you have to replace the whole gauge cluster.
