Car was making winding noise while driving. dealership says p. steering rack is leaking fluid.. but also says i need an alignment after they do this and also a flush? not sure i do.. need guidance.
An accredited shop that knows what they are doing would be able to exchange a steering rack with out altering the wheel alignment. However having said that I would suggest that you have a wheel alignment done anyway as the alignment can be out before they did the job. Remember that it is the job of salesman to sell tyres so the recommendation to rotate tyres all the time hides the fact that you need an alignment and you have to buy 4 tyres at a time instead of 1 or done properly 2. By not rotating tyres then when a tyre shows abnormal wear it becomes noticeable as balance, alignrnent, tyre case problem, over/under inflation and you can take appropriate action to correct it.

Either the power steering hoses will need to be loosened and removed for replacement, or the canister is leaking and you will have to remove all the hoses and bolts to remove the pump.
SOURCE: power steering fluid leaks, rack replaced approx a year ago
May have a failure in the replaced rack. I would take it back to the shop that did the work for warranty. If you got a remanufactured rack it was re-built and may have had major problems that were not fixed with the rebuild.
SOURCE: My power steering liquid keeps leaking out daily.
Put a piece of carboard under the car and start it.
Turn the steering wheel all the way one way, and then all the way the other and back. Shut the car off. when the fluid leaks again, try to determine where it is coming from under the car. It seems simple, but Master mechanics do this all the time. If the pulley is making a clicking noise then it may be time to replace the pump.

try replacing the o ring or use double o rings between the reservoir and pump, pressure builds from use and the fluid blows out of this o ring even after the vehicle is off. When the dealer replaces the pump they re-use the reservoir and o ring so the problem does not get fixed. The fluid runs down the pump and the lines to the rack, instead of washing the engine and observing where the fluid is leaking from, they replace good parts until they find the problem. Sometimes one o ring isn't enough.
