I just replaced the timing belt on an 03 Hyundai accent. I got everything set on time but when i start it it misses really bad and smells like gas

More common problem for no start is the computer by the battery goes bad,.If you replace it get THE EXACT PART NUMBER ONLY.

check compression on each cylinder, if u have zero clearance on those valves u may need to replace the head or have a valve job

have a compression test done! it will tell you if you have a head leak

how many klms on engine? sounds like timing belt is broken

drive belts could be loose.

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.
