Is 245 degrees a dangerous temp for a cadillac northstar engine?
A north star engine has aluminum heads anything over 212 is not good and has the posibility of warping the heads to leak resulting in failure of engine
normal temp sholuld be about 160 +/- 10
Yes it is I have a 2000 Cadillac Deville, bought it for 700.00 it was sitting on side of road, with a 800.00 sign on it. I pulled over wonder what was wrong with it beings it is worth about 4000.00? Man came out and said he had it at four shops and they could not figure it out. I got it home flushed radiator, engine and heater core out. put in new thermostat, checked water pump, still over heated when I drove it, Turned out to be the cover under neith the car that hooks to front bumber to metal frame. Bought one from junkyard for 5.00 fixed amazing. It was back drafting the radiator so fans could not do their job cooling the engine.

Have you unhooked the battery since you put the freon in? If not, do it.
SOURCE: i just bought Cadillac Deville 1996(northstar 4.6)
of 222 to 227 is normal, but u make have a leak in the system, check the all the water house for leaks, inspect the water pump

No it has to be a 32 valve northstar engine
SOURCE: 1998 Cadillac Deville overheating
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

Hello,
The coolant temp sensor is screwed into the rear head on the driver side down below the EGR valve, see this diagram
