My cougar does the same, it starts and then about 1 minute later (or so) the check engine light comes on and the car idles really high, with black smoke out the exhaust. It stays in second gear i think and it will not shift out of it. Max speed is 40 mph with the rpms screaming, it will go off after a long time but this is agrivating. I have a 94 mercury cougar xr7 3.8 ltr Any help please?
The tensioner is not adjustable, the spring in it provides a preset tension, I don't understand what you did, but if it came apart then most likely you damaged it, buy a new one, if you get it wrong and it falls apart on the road you are stuck.
it depends on which letter is in front of the code
B1443 is door handle switch circuit open
C1443 steering phase Acircui short to ground
P1443 evaporative emission system control valve ( low / no flow )
