I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler and the oil pressure gauge will start to drop after running for about 20 minutes and then drops really low when I am sitting at red lights and in traffic
The Oil pressure sensor seams to have gone bad and needs to be replaced soon as possible as they tend to leak oil soon after. There common to go bad and start with that since it's easier then replacing the oil pump, but if you don't hear any ticking from the engine and you have good pressure when the engine is cold then it's the sensor.
The 4 cylinder oil pressure switch is located below the A/C compressor. It is a single wire connection with a gray/yellow striped wire.
The 6 cylinder oil pressure switch is located on the passenger side rear of the block. It is a single wire connection with a gray/yellow striped wire.
Good luck and hope this helps.
It sounds like the high pressure bypass on the oil pump is going out,get a manual oil pressure test done immeadiatly, continuing to drive it like it is will seriously damage the motor.
Oil pump going, or the crank bearings worn.
are there any noises that appear when oil pressure drops?
check sensor

No there are no noises when it drops. It loses some power but as soon as I start moving again it goes back to normal or slighlty below normal.
Thank you I will. Will any auto parts store do this for me?
I hope that is all it is. It is a 6 cylinder engine and I am a girl so passenger side rear of block is like another language to me can you be a little more lay-mans terms. I will be replacing it myself.
We took the oil pan off and replaced oil pump and screen. The screen was filthy so that could have been the problem but since it was apart anyway we replaced the works. Thank you for your advice.
I replaced the oil pump and screen and pressure switch. It is still having an issue. Any other ideas
