What all do i need to adjust transmission bands in 2001 dodge dakota

Bands are adjusted when you build a transmission

You do not need to adjust

The amount of band thickness & wear, is so small,
that the trans is shot, long before you have any wear
that needs to be adjusted

If you turn the screw the wrong way, the band falls off at
the ends & you can't reach in there to replace it & the unit
has to come out & apart

You will see no difference if you brought that band down tight
on the drum & then loosened it the correct number of turns

The servo will apply the band & there is no reasons for a delay

Your 2001 is 13 years or more old

If the fluid has not been changed every 2 or 3 years
since new,it is about to expire

Just had that problem w/ my 01 Dekota, it was the resistor that used to be mounted on the firewall and easy to get to but that is now mounted low on the back of the engine jammed into a bey tight position. I couldn't get to it myself, so ended up taking it to neighborhood garage. Cost me about $150

My 98 Dodge Dakota gets stuck between 2nd and 3rd - Only way I can get it to shift to 3rd is shift to neutral and then back to drive. What could be causing this? Automatic vehicle

Your transmission may simply need a good flush. Then again a band inside the transmission may need to be ajusted or you may have a silinoid going out. I hope this helps you out.

I would check out your kickdown band inside your transmission. You can check it by removing the pan and pulling down the valve body. Once you get the valve body down you can see the kickdown band it is the band closest to the front. Check the tabs where the band adjuster is. The tabs on the band itself can get bent causing the band to be way out of adjustment which will cause shifting problems like you are having. Sometimes you can just bend the tabs back and reset the adjustment on the band. If its too bad though you will have to pull the transmission and change the band. But before you do all this check to make sure your kickdown lever and cable are working properly. Sometimes if it is binding on your shift leaver your shifter might move hard or your gas pedel can feel super easy to push or hard to push. good luck hope this helps

Try changing the automatic transmission fluid and the transmission filter. There are also bands on the transmission that can be adjusted. You will need to buy the service manual at your local auto parts store to get the exact specifications for adjusting the bands.

Yes that could be. and the transmission control module is re learing the driving condition. I would give it a 2 week break in period. I would take back to the shop if the condition does not clear up in two weeks. They may have to re adjust the bands inside. This should be free of charge considering the shop warranty the work parts and labor. I would not let the shop tell you this is a different condition from being rebuilt. Checking the bands and adjusting the tranmission is part of a rebuilding processes.

Good Luck

'98 DD sport 4x4 115,000...I let my truck warm up for 5-10 minutes. Everything sounds good feels good. I accelerate up to 60 mph at about 3000 rpm and it wont shift to 4th.

Have your transmission serviced. The owners manuel says to do this every two years or 24k. There are Two reasons for this one being that during the service the clutch bands need to be adjusted the second reason is that debris in the transmission filter can cause the condition that you are describing. Make shore to have the service done by someone who Knows what they are doing as the clutch band adjustment is critical. Chrysler transmission require ATF + 4 fluid use of any other type of fluid will damage transmission.
