greetings: the reason your veh will not run is because the security system has been activated. it will allow you to start it but the security system kills the motor so the veh can not be driven off if in fact it was being stolen. if you have the remote control, lock the veh and then unlock it. this will shut the security system down and return your veh to normal and it should start and run normal. i have a 93 and 94 both worked this way. using the key to lock and unlock to shut the system did not work for me but the remote did the job.also anytime the batt cable is removed, the security system will activate when you put the batt cable back on. then you have to do what i described above on mine to deactivate the security system. the manual says use the key to deactivate the system but that does not work on mine. i hope this helps have a great day wayne
SOURCE: Trouble starting
It is probably the ECU / ECM. I had the same problem. Replaced everything and that last. Of course thats what it was. You can pick one up on Ebay- the company name is ECUEXCHANGE. They offer a warranty. The only place I found and they had the best price. Though they are rebuilds. Good Luck!
SOURCE: jeep won't start until a clicking sound comes from fuse box
The click you hear is the fuel pump relay. It gets its signal to energize from the PCM.If you have a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor, the PCM will not work. Check for a bad fuel pump relay and also all of the other sensors: Camshaft Position Sensor, MAP Sensor, Idle air Control, Intake Air Sensor, etc.

Could be one of several items...I'd check the fuel pump relay, auto shutdown relay and the ignition switch itself. I'd bet on it being one of those relays but, we all have been fooled at least once!!! I'd also make sure that body and engine grounding is good and clean. Relays can't work properly without a good ground.
SOURCE: jeep won't start. turn the
clicking when you turn the ignition on most vehicles could be one of two things. First the selenoid for the starter. Second the batterry is worn out or drained. Since your jeep starts with the remote its not your battery. Lucky for you your remote starter is like having a second selenoid. If you are so inclined you might try to fix it yourself. Open the hood. Have someone else turn the key. Follow the sound. I don't have a jeep of that model to look at but It could possibly be comming from a two post terminal that is realatively easy to change. If you are worried about reassembly take pictures before you start. Clean all connections that look corroded.
