SOURCE: 4 wheel drive wont swich back to 2 wheel drive
For a temporary fix so the car can drive, remove the fuse for the four wheel drive. it won't actuate the four wheel. The car is always in 2wheel drive. the fuse is located under the hood, the very right side of the of the fuse box, the third fuse up from the bottom. This can be checked in the owners manual. When I need four wheel dr I place the fuse back in. I haven't fixed the problem yet but can drive it 2wheel on the road. think it is the control module for the four wheel dr located under the dash board behind the glove box. Dealer part for $450, I would rather install and remove a 10cent fuse

I had that problem in my 1998 Blazer. There is a module on the passenger side of the truck, next to where the passenger right foot be. Remove the side kick panel to get to module. Disconnect battery before unpluging and pluging new mudule in. This unit controls the electronic switching between 2 and 4 wheel drive..Wes

There is an electric motor that engages drive. Mine was stuck and a mechanic beat it w a hammer while I was in vehicle w brake on in drive pushing the diff 4wd buttons. It freed up and started working fine!! It looks like a small starter under car on passenger side. Or buy one on ebay for cheap and replace it

I have noticed this on my tahoe a few times. The cause from mine could differ from yours, but i live on a dirt rode and the dust accumlitates everywhere. I had taken the switch out and took a can of pressurized air and blown the selnoids off and everthing worked great from there. The only thing that I could think of was that the dust was keeping it from getting a good connection. Hope this will work for you.
