The problem is with the connection from the light bulb holder to the socket that the bulb and holder go into. I believe on my 01 JGC it was the top light that was going out when i applied the brakes with the lights on. If you remove the light bulb holder in the tail light assembly and look at the area that the bulb and holder came from either the metal that makes contact with the holder for the bulb is depressed, or in my case it was cracked. You can use a small flat scewdriver to lift the metal in the tail light assembly, or as i did, i just put some tin foil on top of the metal, then reinstalled the bulb and holder ontop of the tin foil (this makes the elec. connection). seems like a rigged up solution, but made sense to me, and worked!

This seems to be the affects of a bad dinamo charging your battery . If you take a appart the dinamo you should fine a part called in mechanic terms "the bones" they look like 2 black magnets with a wire coming out of them . They are not expencive and you should not change your dinamo untill you try this first a car dinamo is very expencive .

One long bolt at the top - requires a 7mm socket to remove the bolt. The light housing will pry out with a screw driver. There are three ball and socket type connectors that hold the housing in and I just pryed off the plastic housing carefully and "balls" pop out of the sockets. Finally, I was replacing the faded plastic housing and it came with a new wiring harness. It's impossible to reach the connector to use the new wiring harness that comes with the new plastic light housing. So just use the existing wiring harness with the new light assembly.

There is a vacuum leak under the hood. If it's a 6 cylinder, look on the drivers side for a vacuum line that runs vertical with a 90 degree angle fitting to the manifold. That one usually comes off. If it is a V8 look on the battery side for a broken or corroded vacuum line.
