My dad has a 91 Toyota Previa 2.4 liter. It has recently started shaking when it reaches 60 mph, and it misses when idling or driving slowly. like under 5 mph. It recently died when I was stopped for a stop light. It runs fine when I put premium gas in it but my dad is on disability and can't afford to always put premium in his tank. It also has horrible gas mileage. He puts a fuel additive in it, but it hasn't helped lately. I had a chevy impala that did the same thing, unless I put shell premium gas in it, it would die every time I stopped. It didn't shake like my dads van, but it's got to be similar because of the premium gas fixing the problem. I had my mechanic fix my car but i don't remember what part he replaced. After he did, I could put any gas from any gas station in it and it would run fine... any ideas? P.S. My dad would like to do the work himself if it's something simple..
I had the same problem too with my 1991 Toyota Previa All Track.
The car ignition shut off when I stop on a red light or stop sign. The car even shake and rattle when I reach the speed of 60 mph and higher. But the problem has been solve now.
Replace Battery
Replace Alternator
Replace Spark Plug
Replace Ignition Rotor
Replace Distributor Cap
Replace Spark Plug Wire
It's a weird fixed, but it solve the shaking and dying problem.
You need to replace the fuel sock in the tank and the fuel filte and do a tuneup wires plugs and cap.
