It could be the engine control module. Try to get a good used module from the junkyard and try your luck. All the best !!

I have replaced my 1993 318isa module two times myself!! GOOD LUCK!

open the bonnet remove the black plastic over on top of the grill and this reveals the back of the grills so you can push themout from behind and not damage the paint.

316i engine 318i e36

Check compression and timing. Then check sensors(MAF, oil pressure sensor). Don't crank engine too long. Cranking engine may pour a lot of petrol into your engine oil.

Is it possible for a BMW E36 316i to bend valves when my cambelt hads stripped?

Yes its very possible possible that valve damage may have occured when the belt failed.I would suggest that you reinstall a new belt and attempt to crank the engine.Theres a chance it that it did not bend any valves. If it does not crank then cylinder head will have to be removed for the repair.
