This vehicle as well most other Volkswagens of that era are notorious for oil sludge in the engine. Go to any Vw forum and you will see. You have to get this sludge out or otherwise it contaminates fresh oil and makes it lose its viscosity.

As far as the oil pressure, DO NOT DRIVE WITH NO OIL PRESSURE. If it is making noise from the valve train, there is no pressure. Be very careful running it, you may ruin an internal engine part. If you can idle it until the noise lightens up, then you can drive as long as there is oil pressure.

There are two pressure switches. One for oil pressure and one for a dirty oil filter. Are you sure you've changed the right switch. If car drives for 30 mls it doesn't sound like you need an engine. The spluttering is likely to be completely unrelated to the oil warning I suspect.

Hi. there are many issues that can cause this type of situation. the oil pressure sending unit may be malfunctioning. there could be a faulty module or the wires and connectors could also be lose or faulty as well. you could also have a clogged oil filter but, that usually isn't the main issue here. the most common problem here would be a bad oil screen in the pan or a faulty oil pump. you will find the problem in these areas above.

Please rate and god bless:)

The oil pressure relief valve should be on the oil pump.If your oil pressure is ok,have the wiring tested to theswitches or try another set of clocks

The oil pump is relatively easy to change with the engine in situ if it is (commonly) at fault,
Get an oil pressure gauge with a pipe and brass fitting ready on, (borrow or buy cheap from boy racer shop), unscrew the sensor (or ask the garage to for a £5) and plug it directly into the sensor hole after you've been for a run.. When warm, mine sits about 40 at motorway speeds, ten at tickover.

On my 1993 detroit 60 12.7, one day the oil pressure dropped to 15 psi and the buzzer came on , now if I drive it 4 miles, pressure low and buzzer comes on.

I can only tell you that in my Cat engine, as the crank and rod bearings wore further and further, the oil pressure also got lower and lower. Perhaps one or more of you bearings has gone bad.

My 92 eldorado has a ticking sound when car drives the noise came out no where from the passager side is it my oil pump it gets lounder when gas is apply

What is the oil pressure when ticking starts? How many miles on engine? How often do you change oil? What oil do you use? What brand filters do you use? Is this a Northstar engine?

High mileage Northstars (and others) will have tappet noise as they wear. You might try adding a quart of Marvel Mystery oil at next oil change, but if low oil pressure is the problem, try changing to a slightly thicker oil, say 20-50. If you don't know what the oil presure is, install a mechanical guage. I had a freind with a low pressure problem on very high mileage car who began using straight 50W oil and car ran another 3 years/60K miles before dying.

After driving my car 2006 chevy impala for about 20 miles the dashboard warning light oil pressure low stop engine and the oil warning light appears, but if step on break or slow down it goes out..wha

Verify that the engine has the proper amount of oil. The inertia from accelerating may be moving the oil in the oil pan away from the sensor and causing it to send a signal, then when you slow the oil levels out and the sensor go's off. I've had this happen alot with a taurus that I owned. The simple solution was to top off the oil to the correct level and the sensor did not come on again (until it ran low again, had a leaky oil plug on oil pan).

My 2000 Nissan xterra started shaking while idling and the service engine light came on. I changed the oil and it feels better. It doesnt knock In neutral or park. It also rattles till you hit about 30...

Also- the rattle is most likely the valve lifters. The lifters on this engine and the model previous (I have owned both to 180k miles or more) lose pressure when the motor is off. They re-pressureize with engine oil after the motor starts and tap a little until they "pump up" to full size. Just don't drive until the rattle dies down and as long as it is under 30 seconds or so- you will be fine there.

Idiot light and buzzer for oil coming on at low rpms. Oil level on full. Engine not overheating no excessive noise from lifters. Assuming sending unit or oil pressure switch. Not sure where these are...

It might be the sender unit or you are using an oil grade that is too thin and the oil pressure is down a bit. However, the oil pressure switch is located on the engine block above the sump level and looks a bit like a small spark plug with black insulation. It has one wire coming from it with a press on connector. Replace it and if you have the same problem the next in line would be:-
Oil change and filter (20W-50)
Leaking oil pressure relief valve
Worn oil pump
Worn valve train components
Worn bearings

Valves, lifters/engine noise

Sounds like you ran your oil pretty low my not be lifters but connecting rods. Was it a tapping sound or knocking?

Intermittent oil pressure loss at highway speeds

sending unit may be bad. If engine is not knocking or tapping when pressure reads 0 likely that's the case.

Oil pressure light comes on after driving on highway for 10 miles

Sounds like your sending unit sensor - if it was your pump going out, your engine would be history by now. Rule of thumb, if your oil check light ever comes on, it's usually too late to remedy the problem. You have a major issue, but since you've obviousely drove it quite a bit since then and it still hasn't seized up, I'm guessing you're ok...for now. Since you took it to a shop and they said you're ok, I'm assuming they checked your level and visually checked for leaks and found nothing. Either, you've got somethijng partially blocking your pick-up tube for the pump which is in your oil pan, or a electrical issue with the sensor. I would start by having someone check the sensor out and go from there...good luck.

Knock in my engine

DO NOT DRIVE or run this car until you resolve this.  Irreperable damage may already have been one, but if not, don't press your luck.
Sounds like you don't have any oil pressure, could be
oil pump bad (pretty rare unless you have 300K miles or more no regular oil changes) or
oil pickup screen plugged up, If you or someone didn't change the oil regularly this is likely
obstruction in oil line (very unlikely)
defective oil filter or pressure relief valve (pretty unlikely)
good luck,
