I have a 1986 Chevy celebrity, I just put in a new battery and altanator, but the battery won't hold a charge and when its running its ideling low and sounds like its going to die I took it to a shop and they could not find a problem and when driving it home it died andnow the battery is dead again. Could it be a fuel pproblem? Maybe the fuel pump or filter?
Fuel problems wouldnt cause electrical issues... most likely a dead ground (positive wire shorting against something metal) the only real way to find one is with a complete wire trace. I would start with anything recently installed (perhaps a stereo or amp). another good place to check is around the exhaust (these wires sometimes get to hot and ground when the coating melts away)

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere causing the engine to flood.Check all hoses coming fron intake manifold.

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

Check the alternator for voltage output, worn belt and belt tensioner.
A health alternator should be produce 13.6-14.8V.
Any less it will put a drain on the battery.
(example: fuel pump,fans and lights)
Base on what you changed already,I recommend you to
1)inspect the tensioner wear indicator (two arrows, lines or dots) if they coming close the it's time to change the tensioner.
2)check the for worn belt. Look for cracks on the belt.
3)charge up the battery and monitor the voltage.
4)get the alternator check.
Most alternator can go up to 100,000 miles.
Some auto part store has a portable battery + alternator test.

Try replacing the fuel pump relay, or you may have a PCM (computer) and prom failing. Underneath your hood, behind the passenger side headlight, behind the core support, is a bank of 2-8 relays. One of those relays is the relay needed for your fuel pump. There will also be a fuel pump relay fuse located there.
Inspect that area for any corrosion or loose wire (bad ground) Good luck and here is a link for you to retrieve your DTC codes and that may help you resolve the car's issue.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.
