Check that you are not in 4 wheel drive H and on hard stand ( hard surface ) The jolt may be from drive train torque wind up releasing on the stop motion . wheel drive should only be used on loose surfaces --- mud--gravel---snow --ice or any surface that will allow the tyres to unwind the torque build up.by slipping

Why is car abruptly jolting to a stop in reverse and not moving?

Sounds like the transmission is shifting into both reverse and a forward gear at the same time. Time for a tranny overhaul. But first check the transmission fluid level.

Engine stops while trying to park, car jolts when going 35+ mph.

Try replacing the sparkplug wires. These are all common symptoms of bad sparkplug wire on a DIS ignition system. I would also suggest changing the fuel filter. I tell all my coustomers to replace their fuel filter at every 3'rd oil change i.e. 80 to 90K. hope this helps:)

I have a friend who has a 2004 ford f150. The check engine light and abs light is on and the truck jolts like is trying to shift gears a steady speed. What might be the problem?

Take it to Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for a FREE scan. Since a problem light is on, the computer will tell you what part is bad.

The ABS can have a problem reading the RPM of each wheel if there is dirt or debris blocking a sensor. Common problems are the rear Emergency brake shoes coming apart within the drum portion of the rear rotor. The rear of the truck has 2 braking systems, an Emergency brake and a service brake.

The ABS portion of your problem can also be scanned with a better scanner having more functions. The "Check engine" light is on a separate system and most minimum priced scanners will work with it. Since the ABS is automatically operating, a malfunction can result in a jolt as the individual brakes are wrongly applied.

The ABS will apply the brakes to the fastest spinning wheel and this will result in a drivetrain jolt.

Winding down noise when stopping and big jolt when I do!

Dear Sweetallday5,
Without seeing the car, and being able to hear and look at it underneath, anything we can do is guess.
Now, here is a really good guess.
Do not drive the can one more mile, not even to a repair shop.
Have it towed.
Otherwise, you stand the risk of having it quit on you in the middle of the street, or even wreck whilst you are driving it.
As far as being worth it to fix, only an honest mechanic can tell you that.
God bless your efforts.

Something in drivetrain shaking when taking

There are too many variables involved in doing a "remote control" diagnosis for your problem. I suggest that you actually get under there and take a good look at everything including all driveshaft and axle joints.Best is to test with vehicle off the ground in neutral, so what you are checking is "unloaded" that way you can detect looseness better. Always make sure that the vehicle is secure though so it does not fall or roll on you.
