After approx 40 min of highway driving the AC stops blowing cold

Opening the hood after the AC has stopped the larger tubes have been coated with frost. Once melted, the AC usually blows cold again for the first 20-30 minutes before blowing warm. While driving once the AC blows warm if you turn off the AC for 20 min. it will blow cold again but not for as long as at the start of the trip. I have had the system tested for leaks and replaced the tubing and added new freon.

The frosting of the line is normal. Did you use a gauge set when charging the unit? AND, most important, Did you evacuate the system before putting in the freon? Very important. What was your final low side reading and your final high side reading?

Good idea, take it to a qualified A/C Tech. There are safety issues when working with refrigerants, and pressurized systems.Good luck.

This is a problem solved by moderation. There are pressure switches in the system which cut off the compressor for too high a charge and too low a charge. The unit is suppose to cycle between a predetermined range, a moderation between high and low. If you were having problems before replacing the freon there is at least 1 pressure switch that could have been your problem in the beginning. If you have a manifold guage which shows high and low pressure you can tell when the pressure switch is open or closed. Some switches and for sure the autoparts store selling them can tell you the op[erating range of your switch. You can try just replacing the low pressure switch and fly blind without the manifold guages. Know how many ounces of Freon you put in? Compare to specs to see if you overcharged.

stop and think about it before buying random parts- the blower is working according to your description- it is turning off when driving, when? when your coming to a stop? when on the highway? what does the tempature gauge read? there will be questions to follow when you answer those first few.

The large tube coming out of firewall passenger side under hood. It's the cold line. Fitting is larger than high pressure side.

Heater/ac not working properly

Easy fix. The vacuum hose has come loose. Happens all the time. The hose is about 1/2" in diameter and can be found under the hood, in the middle of the engine compartment, on the drivers side. Just take a tie wrap and tighten it down over the plastic inlet.
