'91 Mercury Capri XR2 trouble starting/running - fuel problem

I have a '91 mercury capri XR2 that appears to have a fuel problem. After we replaced the inline fuel filter it appeared to be better until we took it out on road. You give it gas and it started sputtering like its not getting the gas fast enough. At times it is harder to start the car...today it did not want to strart.

Previously (yesterday) we got the car back from conrads after we personally had to order a for them to replace the knock sensor ....the coil that sits on the air intake had cracked which we think may have damaged the knock sensor... After replacement it appeeared to work fine....for the 10 min that we drove it. Now we have the problem that was in paragraph 1. Conrads says that the fuel pressure is ok and they seem to think my fuel pump is ok....I hope it is not something with the fuel injector...

Can anyone help me or steer me in the right direction...thanks.

For reference I got the part through www.moderncapriparts.biz (a great and helpful guy!)

Coil and sensor module seem to be getting pretty hot.

Did you fix this? Sometimes the temperature sensor on the back of the motor can cause hard starting.

according to a manual , the crank key will point to arrow , the intake cam should have an letter i aligned with arrow on belt cover and exhaust cam should have letter e aligned with arrow on belt cover , and as always rotate the engine 2 full turns to inspect timing marks before cranking or trying to start the engine . if you haven't taken the original belt off yet , paint your marks for quicker reference .

SOURCE: I Have a 91 capri XR2 turbo 1.6 L 5 speed.I have

The problem may be with the ignition control module or the pick-up coil inside the distributor. The module is a few hundred bucks and the pick-up is another fifty. I'm trying to get more info on troubleshooting this before you invest the money to replacing the Ignition control module. Good luck and hope this helps. In the mean time here is a link for you. http://mercury-capri-parts.com/2006/02/base-capri-versus-capri-xr2-turbo.html

SOURCE: Intermittent spark: 1994 Mercury Capri

I would suspect that you have a loose connection inside the distributor or in the ignition wiring. Give it a good visual inspection. Also, after dark, have someone start the car while you observe under the hood for any arcing or sparking. Doing this at night allows you to see where trouble may be located. Let me know what you find. [email protected]

I have a 91 mercury capri xr2 5 speed and suddenly ive noticed that the clutch is not engaging synchronically as it usually does, ill let off the clutch pedal and the rpm's will shoot up way faste

It sounds like you have a worn out clutch. You need to remove the transmission and replace the clutch assembly and have the flywheel machined. Since this is a very expensive repair have a shop confirm my guess.

91 mercury capri will not idle

Clean the idle speed control valve and the throttle body of the engine and that should correct this.

My wiper moter and spray quite i replaced the moter no change fuses look good as well 1992 mercury capri xr2

If both the wiper motor and the washer motor do not work, then it is the 25 amp fuse, or the wiper control module in the dash...possibly the switch in the steering column, but I doubt that...

1991 mercury capri turbo xr2: are engine rebuild parts available, e.g., new pistons, rods, cranks, etc..

Your car looks like a Ford Capri engineered in Australia from a Mazda 323. These are quite common in New Zealand and Australia . Unfortunately they came out at the same time as the MX5 and didn't sell well.
Do a search on Google images for Ford Capri to see if they are the same. If they are parts are readily available ex Mazda
