The 4WD light comes on and off when in 4WD. It is not a steady light that glows all the time.

When changing to 4WD, the 4WD lamp is not steady but comes on intermittently.

I have a 2005 jeep liberty. none of the 4wd lights on the dash light up when selecting the different 4wd modes, stopped working today. can anyone please help me with this

usa? not diesel?
why are you in 4wd? snow, ice, off road, do tell.
not sure what lamps are dead, no photo by you.
are you talking parking lamps dead in dash? called illumination
or the mode lamps. ????
where on the dash, the main cluster? where? TRY TO BE EXACT.
do you mean shift console lamps, ????? those are on the dimmer feed.
the best answer is get car serviced
or scan it, see if there are errors. to the 4wd system etc.

we cant do grinds here, we deaf and blind and....
find a shop , that can find LOCATIONS. of noise
only That works, ever.
grinding in all modes of use, parked, neutral. driving, hills, gears.
??????????
do you have any warning lamps glowing ,driving?
the lamps if the 4wd lamps are dead.
tell me you are not using 4Low mode on pavement, first.
most times fuse are first, 2007 this changes but 2005
there are 2 fuse boxes, cab and eng bay.

ON PAGE 166 in the oper guide
lamp 6 dead, 4low?
lamp 19 FULL TIME , dead or stuck on??????
or the switch bank dead?
command trac or select trac 4wd.? NV241 or NV242?
2 options day 1.

here is my guess,
you are using 4wd incorrectly
do tell what tires are sitting on.
the me it car is command or select trac opted
and all lever selections you tried.
EACH 4wd mode has rules.
rule one stay out of 4-low. unless off road

the opr guide is here if lost.
see the word secret , here.

http://jeepdied.com/books.html

command trac, 4w is not for driving on ice free pavemenet
Comman trac is part time 4wd, (the word part meas, ice or dirt)
select trac, is full time, (never in 2w low) 4H works on pavement even dry. page 240 in your op guide.
The rules on the 2 boxes are totally different.

After changing oil on 2006 jeep liberty 2x4 thats whlights en esp bas started coming on how could changing the oil cause this

co relationships, don't always prove causation.
i can change my oil with no disturbing any electronics, did you ?
are you in 4wd or 2wd,? yours is 2wd only car. sure.

did you read the operators guide in the glove box, on ESP.
The ESP can come on , for normal things.
here is an example.
i'm driving, my jeep, (2008) out of a parking lot and 1 tire hits some
gravel and the tire wants to SPIN.
so ESP kicks in and saves my life (LOL) the lamp flashed telling me
"hey buddy, watch that gravel stuff"
Started coming on, what does that mean.
its stuck on, or glows steady now, or glows full time driving ? on hard dry pavement in 2wd.?
did you read your operators guide first , in the glove box.
did you lose it.
here it is , down load it and keep it forever.

http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manuals/

read the ESP sections.
if ESP is unhappy, get the car scanned,
scan it and see if there are DTC errors related to ABS, EPS, etc.

EPS uses many forces (controls) to stop skids.
it uses brakes, engine and transmission.
RTM
if you wish more information on how it works read the FSM>
then ask questions.

4 wheel will not engage

define engage.
1: lamp glows. (means almost nothing... 1switch 1 lamp, zip)
2: 1 tire slips on front and rear on ice.? (works for real,it does.)

are you driving on dry pavement (no ice) in 4wd
stop that
, this is part time 4wd, its not AWD. at all
http://www.fixkick.com/part-time-test.html

see the rules , even the lost operator guide rules, and why.
and how to do the tests. wheels up or wheels down.

always post road surface with 4wd,
ice
snow
dirt? what, we just dont know until you say.

On my 01 grand vitara i changed the 4wd pump behind the bumper the indicator light for 4wd now comes on but 4wd still does not engage

what does engage mean.? it fails on ICE or DIRT

engaged, means, (mechanically) one tire front and rear have traction

with LSD front and rear all 4 have traction and spin on ice

does it?

part time 4wd dont work on dry pavement so that is my 1st question

why not state, what you are driving on, and what does engage means

by what means did you check engaged.????

this car is not AWD, do you know the difference from AWD and

Part time 4wd? the diff, is there is center differential. on part time

so must be (true test) tested on ice, or dirt.

see the videos here, or a demo.

or on ice. ice you will see front and rear both working,

on dry plave ment all you get is windup... very very bad to do

in traffic, causing you to wreck and other to get , hurt.

if you understand all that, then do say what you mean

ENGAGED.

if you know what windup is and it dont, then you are correct

its not engaged. (jack left front tire up, engage it and feel it? by turning the the tire, it must fight you)

front up, rear down. in 4wd.

here it it is again.

http://www.fixkick.com/part-time-test.html

if it dont engage for real,. may i introduce you to the FSM

its in my hand now.

page 3B-3 . see it?

switch closes in xfr case

ECU sees that and powers up the air pump.

if pressure is good the Ecu is told that, if wrong you get scanned DTC code saying just that (obd2 scan too)

the pump has 2 shut off modes, good pressure. and fails to hold for 10seconds. (prevents pump from running all time)

if all the above works the Lamp glow by PCM command.

if you have full pressure , the lock in the front axle is now locked

no pressure, no lock yes full pressure it must lock or the axle

actuator is bad.

the page 3B6 says pressure is 4.25 to 6.40

page 3b10 is the acutator test. and the TRUE ENGAGE TEST

front wheels off ground.

apply 4.2psi with shop air and reg.at the acutator nipple

1: you spin one tire, the other spins backwards (GOOD test)

kill the 4.2 psi supply air

2: you spin one tire.

and the other tire, does nothing, (remains stationary)

pass. test 2.

test one is locked

test 2 is 2wd.

the other tests are on ice or dirt.

does that help?

My overdrive light comes on and stays on

OD'd on OD? sigh.
OD is a tranny function. (top gear, overdriven ratio)
the lamp can also show failures.... (old cars, where is this lamp>?)
all this is in the operators guide, in the glove box.
read the lamp and its modes of operation. and warnings.
07 is here, my be same,,, probably
http://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/jeep/jeep-commander-owners-manuals/

page 134 , tow-haul switch set wrong? ERS option ! only.
does car have the EVICs display that gives message warnings?
like transmission overheated, etc.?
OD operation is complex. 4s or 5speed.
it can drop out with too cold and engine, or in 4wd.
speed, load and other conditions. including
Is the Check Engine lamp glowing , running? if yes scan it.
as this lamp also reports transmission errors. pg 176.
is your car 2wd or 4wd? ?
conditions for OD
in DRIVE
normal engine/trans temperatures.
above 30mph.
tow-haul , switch off.
out door temps not too cold. page 260
advice: What is the CEL doing and are all fuses good.
1: this car uses, CAN buss, a car digital network.
it can have errors, and if the OD function is acting up
the book says, do the CAN diagnostics to see if there are errors
from the Display system called CLuster, and the BCM/PCM or tranny functions.
there are 2 tranmissions ( RFE or NAG?)and 3 engines and diff, 2wd/4wd systems options. non of which were stated.
nor exactly where this light is? they never mention it in the opr guide.

Suzuki grand vitara 2003 4wd light keeps coming on and off while driving in 2wd and makes clunking noise

ok its not fibbing, the 4wd is engaging while it should not.

the answer is in the book. the FSM
and at alldata dot com.
as a rule with suz, cars, is that early years.
the light is before the fact and later years after the fact.
but dont matter here, due to its in 4wd.
and will windup on pavement (are you on that or dirt.?)
do not drive a car with stuck 4wd (part time 4wd is not AWD)
its a danger to you and all others on the road.

On my GV. it works like this, and 04, , I have all the books on muy car, so i can DIY . at any time.
fixing cars is complex an wiring blind is dangerous to you and the drive line.

volume1 chapter 3B3.
the ECU sees 4wd and glows the light .
the ECU gets this fact from the 4wd small air pump.
this year, uses a front axle module
this model is an air pump
this #2 module has and air presure switch
so bingo lamp on means the air pump is running. (maybe)

so either that air switch is fibbing, its not you feel 4wd engaged.
or the 4wd command switch is stuck closed. bingo.
this switch closes (or breaks) and tells ECU to engage
4wd, the ECU then starts the air pump then the pump runs
and the air pressure acutaly (vac actuators) move the front
axle to 4wd axle lock mode.

that is the whole deal.
a volt meter at the switch, teminal to ground read
black-org wire
12v ,not 4wd.
0v , engage 4wd, (move the lever key on, and see it toggle.
0v, 12v, 0v ,12v, the sure sign of a good switch.

05 Suzuki XL7 wouldnt sart. Then started and idled up to 3000 rpm and back down. Batt light, air bag light, ck engine light, and 4wd flashing. In reverse it accelerated on its own. Depressed gas pedal in...

id go for chicken feet and blood and voodoo , sessions.....loL

first off, i see an illegal fast idle ,
and all A/T trannys do that, when the engine rpm fraks up.
to move car, due to the stall speed rules of the clutch torque converter (aka ,the fluid clutch) wiki clutch stall speed.

that A/T weakness, is why folks run over kids. (the lame excuse)
starting a car with foot off the brake is , folly, thus the lock all outs called park lock features.

i can not follow your sequence of events.so will ask questions.
1: I start the engine, its don't want to but does. (ever tune it up?)

2: Does the CHECK engine lamp go out (CEL/SES)? running.
for sure, if the engines stalls many lights will glow in the cluster but that is normal, see? for any stall.!
The Charge light comes on anytime the Alternator goes dead
or hits near 0 RPM (stalled)
so are you saying at 3000 rpm, the charge lamp came on.
/??????
battery lamp is not battery, its really a Charge lamp.
the op guide states that too.
on my car I have a battery gauge too, and shows VOLTS.
at idle its 14v. its 14v at all rpm. if less, say so.
I have 2004. GV. with full manuals. even factory FSM. ++++++

ok , in drive, no acceleration, are you saying ,
1: im in A/T drive.
2: the engine is idling at 800 RPM hot or near 1500 cold
3000 is wrong, dead wrong, you in ALASKA, state location(gen)

i increase the RPM with my right foot and the car don't move
in DRIVE
as RPM rises above 1500 RPM, you do have a tacho , i see that.
if it does not move with hgher RPMs, the trans is bad or its TCM is bad.
on your car the TCM is hidden deep inside the PCM. back in 1997.

the PCM runs the engine and tranny today.
if something lies to the TCM/PCM the tranny will not go into drive.
on newer 96+ cars, you see the check engine lamp glow.
running (not stalled, stalling this CEL glows all the time)
but running, the CEL glowing means Faults found, scan me,. please.
eg:
so you scan it, and find DTC's stored (many?) eg.... in english...
the transmission selector switch is bad. or worse.
not using a scan tool ,means ($7 cost) means you miss all the facts. hard cold real facts.
the ECU can not shift any car with a bad selector switch.
so throws the DTC error.
it can be even be a loose selector cable, cave man simple.

recap.
does the CEL lamp stay out running at all times.
no, ? then scan it.
do not post car problems with stored, or pending DTCs on any car newer than 1995. or its just wild guessing.. mostly.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XL and the high range 4x4 mode will not engage. The AWD system works just fine as well as the 4x4 mode in low gear. What is causing this?

Is the Service 4WD light coming on? Do the light on the 4x4 selector switch indicate the proper selection and are on steady after a few seconds? If there is no Service 4WD light on and the selector switch light are correct, the only place for the problem to be is the Transfer Case. Has the Transfer Case fluid been changed at 50K mile intervals? This is very important.

I have a light showing on my dashboard of my VW passatt 2003 1.9 disel. It look a bit like a spring could u please help me out

I did not catch that it was a Diesel the first time. I had a Volvo with a VW/Audi Diesel at one time and it had a similar light for the glow plugs (the cylinder heater plugs). It came on momentarily when the key was first turned, but before starting the car. It would then go out when the cylinders were at the temperature to start the car, and I could then turn the key the rest of the way to start the car. Could this be it? They often do not come on in warm weather when they are not needed.
As far as determining which lamps are out, the easiest way is to have a friend walk around the car while you turn the different lights on and off, including the brakes and the turn signals. In the evening when you are parked, check the dashboard and the heater and radio controls to make sure that they are all lit, including the transmission indicator (PRNDL...). .Also, the lamp-out light can come one if a lamp is not fully into the socket, but you would notice a flicker then and not a steady light.
