Bonnet release cable snapped on my renault trafic

There are two release catches about 15" to the right and left of the centre safety catch. Roughly at each end of the top of the radiator.

The bonnet release cable goes first to the right hand one then there is a wire from that to the left, in a daisy chain way. They are typically French, cables fit into plastic levers ( a bit like bike brakes) not metal which break easily. replacements are not cheap. You need to be able to pull the cable to both catches to get the bonnet up. I managed to do this from underneath. In my case the, left hand one was broken and right hand one was working, but the getting it open broke the bit that that pulls the left. Managed to away with buying just one new catch as they are identical, swopping the right partly broken one over to the left side.

when you say the bonnet has been pushed in do you mean like in a traffic accident if this is the case then is your grill damaged,the reason i say this is the only way you are going to open your bonnet is through your grill so a replacement grill will be needed.if you take this course of action,take a torch and look up under the bonnet you will se the bonnet realease at the very front of your bonnet it will have the bonnet realease cable attached you might need help at this stage,get a friend to push down on your bonnet,put your hand in and push or pull the lever until it releases as this works on a hook system and with the damage it might need a pretty stronge screwdriver to force it always remember the radiator is very easly damaged and very costly to replace .Hope this will help you get your bonnet open .adrian

bonnet = engine compartment hood i hope. look for a leaver you pull on the dash part or near the footwell on the drivers side of the car. if you mean the trunk their is often a realise you pull up on right next to the drivers seat.

If the cable is snapped in your car, then get underneath the car.Try to reach the catch and flip it manually.If you are unable to reach it with bare hands, a bent metal hanger would help to do it.Now,open the bonnet. You can reach the parts in bonnet now.
