Removing alternator on a 2003 olds sillouette

tensioner for a/c belt, alternator, timing belt? you need to be more specific...

Disconnect battery ground cable
Remove the ground wire (black) from the alternator
Disconnect the positive wire (red wire held on by a retaining nut) from the back of the alternator
Now disconnect the wire harness from the alternator
Remove the drive belt
NOTE: Some models use a belt tensioner that applies tension to the drive belt.
The best tool to use for this job is the serpentine belt too.
If you can borrow one from a neighbour you can get one at PartSource. (Part# 648451)
On other models you will have to loosen the adjusting bolt on the alternator bracket.
If you're not sure about how to remove the drive belt, visit your local PartSource for free print outs of car specific instructions.
Take off the mounting bolts from the alternator bracket
Now remove the alternator from the engine compartment

Installing Your New Alternator
Put the alternator in the engine compartment
Install the mounting bolts that connect the alternator to the alternator bracket
Connect the alternator wiring harness
Now connect the positive wire to the alternator
NOTE: Your new alternator should come with a retaining nut.
Remember to remove the nut before you install the positive wire.
If it doesn't keep the old nut.
Connect the ground wire to the alternator
Now install the drive belt
This is a great time to replace your old worn out belt. When inspecting your old belt look for signs of cracking, oil soaked, hard glazed, splitting or fraying.
All these signs mean it's time you replaced your drive belt.
If your vehicle no longer has the belt routing diagram under the hood, visit your local PartSource for a free print out of the belt routing diagram.
Reconnect the ground battery cable .

that sounds like a linkage issue, check under at bell housing, if not its the band you need to rebuild the trans.

If it is just low now it may just be age and needs to be flushed and changed. If the problem is always there and you are not over filling the system cjheck your overflow. Also pressure test the system for leaks don't just look. Check it under pressure, leak may be very slow and will only show up under pressure. Also if all that checks fine watch for white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. That will indicate coolant in the exhaust.

because waterpump is not leaking doesnt mean its not noisey.could have bad bearing thats noisey. remove belt and spin by hand see if you haer any noise and see if loose.

i dont know what those codes are right off hand but if i had to guess id say replace your o2 sensor and or your egr.check your mass air flow as well.

Take it to A GM Dealer they Hook into the ALDL and Reprogram it By Way of a Scanner

i would chk. break light switch. should be under dash above break pedel arm. emergency flashers will be on its own fuse, turn signals should have own fuse. as far as interior lights surging that could be ground or alt. chk. battery cables make sure clean and tight. not good idea unhooking bat. cable when running, one spark or surge to computer could burn up computer. besides that realy won't tell you anything if a diod is bad in alt. it may not show up until you tax the system. its best to take it someware like autozone, or any major auto parts store and have it chk.

open the psaaenger front door there is a panel on the dash end , remove the panel , note the fuse box , more often than not i have found the cigar/dlc fuse out when scanner will not communicate , but you can check them all , hopefully you have a test light , or a fuse remover and just look at them all . cheers .

Your looking at a tight squeeze here,you will have to remove the support arms that are blocking it from sliding through.
