you need to scan transfer case module for codes, i have replaced many encoder motor sensors donot replace entire encoder motor

P1781 4x4 Switch Out Of Range

Couple things to check, transfer case and front diff fluids, make sure no wires are bare or shorting together on either transfer case or front diff, just to eliminate the easy stuff first. I would also check the connectors at the ECM and TCM just to make sure they are secure and tight.

try to reset the computer by disconnecting the positive battery cable for a minute and see if the light comes back on after that if not your good to go
