100k Jaguar s type

I have a 2001 Jaguar s type V8 4.0. Replaced coil packs, spark plugs, and fuel filter. Still feel like a bad miss. Press on gas and won't accelerate. Its smoking and left tail pipe is spitting water and rust. Anyone herd of these kinds of problems. Just bought it after sitting for a year. It has 98k miles. Thanks

You have bought a pig in a poke here my friend and unless you a good weekend mechanic then dump this car ,in the UK if you paid more than 1000pounds then they saw you coming ,look on the autotrader website ,500/1000pounds tops for this car ,nice car YES but old and clapped out like this one then its worthless except for spares ,you will need to strip the heads off and if your luck just gaskets but if vehicle was used with no antifreeze then the water jackets will all be opened up due to corrosion ,Best engine in these cars was the earlier straight 6 like mine in a xj6 4.0 .cALL THE SCRAPYARD

SOURCE: coil pack keeps going bad,

Your problem sounds like an intermittent short in the power feed to the coil pack from the EEC module

SOURCE: 2001 jaguar s-type 4.0 oil in spark plug area

Hi bravo956
i also have the same problem regarding the oil leak. this is due to the spark plug gasket leaking and you will need to replace them. they are circular gaskets about 1.5 inches across that fit to the underside of the rocker covers and prevent oil from seeping down the long spark plug hole. when i investigated my leak i assumed it was just the rocker cover gasket that was leaking but once everything was removed it is obvious.

My vehicle has 107,00 miles on it what should I do to tune it up/

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. At your mileage, it is time to do a tune up anyway. You are going to want to change your serpentine belts. You will want to change your spark plugs/coils, wires, coil packs, distributor cap. You are going to want to change the transmission fluid and filter. Also, flush your radiator and change the coolant. You will want to purchase a new fuel filter and air filter also. It would be a good time for a new PCV valve to. If you want to balance the front end and tires, I would do it. If not, the tune up should increase engine performance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

Changed timing belt on 2001 kia sportage but still runs rough

I would check the connectors on the coil packs, spark plugs and wires and replace them if they at all seem worn or tired. My 2000 sportage ran rough so I replaced the fuel filter, coil packs, spark plugs and wires, cleaned out the IAC valve, TPS, throttle body and intake tube, tightened the screws on the fuel pump access door under the right rear seat and cleaned the ground wire and the contact surface and I added 1 ground wire from the block to the firewall and 1 from the valve cover to the firewall. Your timing is more than likely right where it needs to be but the ignition may be slightly missing from a bad coil pack, dirty or fouled plugs or a bad plug wire.

Engine has a very bad miss in it

The ignition coil pack (the black thing all the plug wires hook to) is probably cracked. Remove it and look for cracks on the bottom and sides. If it is cracked replace it.

Engine miss at 70 to 100 kph .lower speed ok

I had the same problem with my 2001 Jag s type v8 at around 100k My mechanic tested my coils packs and replaced 2 of the 8 he said you don't need to replace them until they go bad but that cured mine also make sure you are using premium fuel also could be injectors clogged or water in the tank try fuel injector cleaner it will cure either of these problems

Car is shaking, idles funny, feel like its running on 4cyl not 8

Hello lovnmymustang,

Thank you for choosing fixya.com. So, you're getting bad gas mileage, and getting a deep sound when you push the gas. Try these suggestions first:

1. Replace O2 sensors; have code cleared at auto parts store if it has come on (service engine light will come on)
2. Replace the fuel filter and the air filter
3. Change the spark plugs/wires/coil pack(s)(carborator if equipped and not coil pack(s) )
a. If coil pack is replaced, check the modular as well (sits under coil pack)
b. If carborated, replace cap and rotor
4. c. Regardless of a or b - change spark plugs and wires

In the main title above (my current page) it says 'car is shaking' - if this feels like it's in the steering, have a front end alignment checked (and performed) if needed. If it feels like the engine, do the above suggestions.

I hope this information aides in the successful repair of your Mustang. Please, let me know if there is anything more I can be of assistance to. Thank you again for choosing fixya.com
